The Veil throws a lot of choices at you the moment you leave the starter town. Ten races and seven classes each change how you fight through the labyrinth, and the game gives you almost no in-game breakdown of what those bonuses actually do. Since races reroll freely at the Stylist NPC and classes cost real currency, knowing which ones pull ahead saves you wasted rerolls and offerings.
Quick answer: Reroll toward Veilborne for the strongest all-round race, and buy the Gladiator class from Vorax for the highest raw damage in a game where damage decides almost everything.

The Veil race tier list
Races are ranked on combat power, survivability, utility, and how cleanly their bonuses slot into a real build. There are no D or F tiers here because every race gives something usable. Two races, Mushling and Obelite, gained new skills in the day-one patch, so their placements reflect the updated versions.
| Tier | Races |
|---|---|
| S | Veilborne |
| A | Underling, Obelite, Goblin, Gemhead |
| B | Wraith, Human, Mushling |
| C | Hiveling, Skeleton |
Rarity does not track power here. Goblin is only Uncommon yet sits in A tier, while some Rare races land lower. Rank by what the bonuses do for your build, not how hard the race is to roll.

Why Veilborne sits alone in S tier
Veilborne is the only Legendary race and the only true top pick. Its Dusk Weaver passive drops the Weave cap from five stacks to four, but each stack now gives +7.5% universal damage and +7.5% speed. That means +30% damage and speed at full stacks, above the +25% a normal five-stack setup reaches, and you hit the cap faster. It also unlocks a night-only skill for extra utility, offset by a +10% insanity cost that stays minor next to the payoff. The only real barrier is its Legendary drop rate.
A-tier races and the builds they serve
The A tier splits cleanly by playstyle. Casters, tanks, and summoners each have a clear home here.
| Race | Rarity | Key effects | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underling | Rare | +25% Fire Resistance, +10% Regeneration, +15% Cast Damage | Magic builds wanting damage plus sustain |
| Obelite | Epic | +10% Resistance, +10% Stone Resistance, +15% Knockback, -10% Speed, +8% Base Resistance, Exert Energy active | Tank builds that trade speed for durability |
| Goblin | Uncommon | +20% Luck, +10% Cast Damage, -10% Cast Cooldown | Accessible caster start with faster spell cycling |
| Gemhead | Rare | +10 Summon Damage, +15 Summon Life | Dedicated summoner builds |
Underling edges out Goblin for pure caster damage since its +15% Cast Damage is higher, plus it adds fire resistance and regeneration. Goblin wins on flexibility with its cooldown reduction and luck, and it is far easier to roll. Obelite is the sturdiest option for a tank, though the -10% speed and the regeneration drawback after Exert Energy are real costs. Gemhead is the summoner pick and does little outside that niche.

B and C tier races
| Race | Rarity | Key effects | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wraith | Rare | 5% chance for any hit to pass through harmlessly | B |
| Human | Common | +5 Max HP per Prestige Level | B |
| Mushling | Uncommon | +10% Regeneration, +10% Healing, -10% Stamina Regeneration, Decompose skill | B |
| Hiveling | Uncommon | +10% Resistance at night, -10% by day, -10% Attack Speed, +10% Damage | C |
| Skeleton | Uncommon | -10% Resistance, +10% Speed, +10% Summon Damage | C |
Wraith gives free damage avoidance that works with any build, but it only dodges about one hit in twenty on average, so it never anchors a strategy. Human is the fallback everyone starts with, since its HP bonus scales with prestige and works with everything. Mushling improved after gaining Decompose and now offers strong sustain despite its stamina penalty. Hiveling and Skeleton drop to C because their downsides are always on. Hiveling’s resistance flips to a penalty during the day and carries a permanent attack-speed cut, while Skeleton’s -10% resistance is a steep price for mobility that Gemhead outclasses for summoners.

Classes are ranked on damage first, then utility and survivability, because The Veil is a PvE game where raw damage decides how fast you clear. Each class is bought from a specific NPC for Sins or Offerings. The list is early since the game just launched, and some class stats are still being confirmed, so expect movement as more testing lands.
| Tier | Classes |
|---|---|
| S | Gladiator, Duskwing, Sky Sentinel |
| A | Florist, Hive Disciple |
| B | Crusader |
| C | Marauder |
| Class | Cost | NPC giver | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | 30 Sins | Vorax | S |
| Duskwing | 30 Sins | Asmodeous | S |
| Sky Sentinel | 30 Offerings | Cryus | S |
| Florist | 30 Offerings | Briar | A |
| Hive Disciple | 30 Sins | Hiveling Corpse | A |
| Crusader | 30 Offerings | Elian | B |
| Marauder | 15 Offerings | Dash | C |

The S-tier classes
Gladiator is the safest S pick. It delivers excellent raw damage, fits the game’s standard combat, and pairs well with tanky races like Obelite. Duskwing is rated at the top by many players even though its exact stats are still unconfirmed, so treat it as high-ceiling but less proven. Sky Sentinel deals massive burn damage that melts most enemies, but it sits at the bottom of S tier because the Underling race’s fire resistance hard-counters that burn.
A tier down to C tier
Florist is a caster class with heavy damage output and stun resistance, and it scales hard with magic-boosting races like Goblin. Its damage is all area-of-effect over time, though, which enemies can dodge, and its healing is minor. Hive Disciple is excellent at night and synergizes with Veilborne, but its bonuses shut off during the day and the price is steep.
Crusader lands in B as a support tank. It stacks healing, resistance, and HP regeneration, holds up well beside Mushling or Obelite, and can heal allies, but it brings no damage bonuses and costs more than its role justifies. Marauder sits at the bottom. It offers strong mobility and several dashes, yet movement matters little inside the labyrinth and the class gives nothing else, so replace it as soon as you can.

How to change your race and class
Races are not permanent. Visit the Stylist NPC in the spawn town, choose the reroll option, and spend a race reroll to open the race screen. Free rerolls come from daily rewards and codes, so you can chase Veilborne without spending Robux. Classes are handled by their own NPC givers listed above, paid for with Sins or Offerings earned through play.
This ranking weighs combat power, survivability, and how each pick fits the most common builds, with raw damage counting most for classes. It reflects the state of The Veil at its September 2026 launch, including the day-one rebalance to Mushling and Obelite. Since the game is still in Beta v1.0.0 and balance patches are landing fast, expect placements to shift, and lean on free rerolls to test builds before committing to a race.
