Valheim Sub-Biomes: How to Find and Teleport to Every Variant

The findbiome and findbiometp console commands locate more than 30 hidden biome variants, and one command restores achievements afterward.

The findbiome and findbiometp console commands locate more than 30 hidden biome variants, and one command restores achievements afterward.

Valheim’s world generator quietly packs more than 30 sub-biomes into each seed. These are variants of the standard biomes, weighted toward a single resource, creature, or structure type, so a patch of Meadows can be stuffed with boars, or a stretch of Black Forest can be carpeted in blueberry bushes. They are not labeled on the map, and there is no in-game search for them. Two developer commands do the work instead.

Quick answer: Open the console with F5 on PC, type devcommands, then enter findbiometp peaceful meadows (or any variant name) to teleport straight to the nearest match. Use findbiome instead of findbiometp if you only want map pings.

Enable the console on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation

Open the console in your world. PC players press F5. On Xbox, hold LT + LB + Menu. On PlayStation, hold L1 + L2 + Options.
Type devcommands and press Enter. If the game asks you to acknowledge that cheats will flag the save, enter Confirmcheats to proceed.
Enter a biome command. Names are typed in plain words, spaces included, exactly as the variant is known.

findbiometp birch meadows

findbiome pings every matching location on your map, which is the safer option if you want to sail there normally and keep the world intact. findbiometp drops you at the nearest match instantly.

Note: Sub-biomes exist for the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain, Plains, and Mistlands. They are not generated for the Ashlands or the Deep North, so commands aimed at those regions return nothing.

Peaceful Meadows is the easiest variant to identify on sight. Boars and deer wander it in unusual numbers, and blue wisps float over the ground as a visual marker. Overlapping variants are common, so one patch of Meadows can carry both the blue wisp indicator and another resource weighting at the same time.

The Black Forest variants split neatly between farming and fighting. Blueberry Black Forest is a straight food run. Root Black Forest is dense enough with roots to work as a training ground. Ruin Black Forest is the standout for anyone chasing ectoplasm, since ghosts spawn there in quantity.

Swamp variants are the riskiest to teleport into blind. The Abomination version concentrates one of the biome’s heaviest enemies, while the Bone and Bat variants trade that threat for gatherable material and swarms. Bog and Hut Swamps are built around terrain and structures rather than spawns.

On the Mountain, Fort Mountain is the notable one because the stone forts generate intact rather than ruined, complete with skeleton spawners inside. In the Plains, Death Plains stacks Deathsquitos, Goblin Plains fills out with Fuling huts, and Lox Plains gives you a herd in one place.

Restore achievements after using developer commands

Turning on devcommands normally flags your character and world, and achievements stop unlocking on them permanently. There is a command that reverses that flag.

yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway

It has to be typed in full and exactly as written, with no spaces. Once it is entered, achievements can unlock again on that save. If nothing changes, the usual cause is a typo in the long string or the console not being in developer mode when you entered it.

Spawn the unfinished White Deer and standing lantern

Two assets exist in the game files without being placed in the world yet. Both can be dropped in front of you with the spawn command while developer mode is active.

spawn Deer_White
spawn deepnorth_lantern_standing

The White Deer is a pale variant of the standard deer. The standing lantern is a Narnia-styled lamppost tied to Deep North assets, and the lantern sub-biome name exists alongside it. Because these are unfinished, treat anything you build around them as temporary.

When a command returns nothing

There are only a few reasons a lookup fails. The name was misspelled or the spacing was wrong, developer mode was not enabled first, or the variant you asked for belongs to the Ashlands or Deep North, where sub-biomes are not generated. A successful findbiome call is easy to confirm, since pins appear on your map at every matching location.

Worth keeping in mind: teleporting into a late-game variant skips the preparation those regions normally demand. A Drake Mountain or Broodswarm Mistlands drop-in without frost resistance, food, and gear ends quickly, and your body will be a long way from home.
