Command An Army: Every Unit Ranked in the September 2026 Tier List

All 25 units sorted into S through C tiers, with Star Limit cost and evolution paths factored in.

All 25 units sorted into S through C tiers, with Star Limit cost and evolution paths factored in.

Winning a siege in Command An Army comes down to which troops you slot under your Star Limit, the hard cap on the combined star value of everything you field at once. Every unit has to earn its place, so the ranking below weighs raw combat power against how many stars it eats and how flexible it is across attack and defense.

Quick answer: Spartan, Immortal, Samurai, and Lancer sit in S tier as the strongest overall picks; Mace and Spear Vanguard are the best value in A tier for players still short on stars.

S tier: the units that decide fights

Spartan has the best raw combat value in the game and holds up in every match type. Its built-in shield makes it strong against charges and ranged fire, while its charge damage lets it swing an engagement if you position it well.

Immortal matches Spartan on offense and puts out the highest damage in the roster, shredding unarmored troops in seconds. It can be fragile on the frontline, so use it for flanks and ambushes rather than tanking hits head-on.

Samurai is the durable pick of the group, pairing heavy armor with strong sustained damage. It survives long fights, tanks archers and crossbows, and delivers solid charge damage when placed properly.

Lancer is the strongest mounted unit and lands the highest charge damage of any troop, making it dominant on open terrain. It struggles when cornered, but in the open it tears through unarmored frontlines. You reach it by evolving Scout Rider through Cavalryman.

A tier: role-defining troops

Mace3★Summon Banner
Knight3★Evolution
Imperial Wall3★Evolution
Cavalryman3★Evolution
Spear Vanguard3★Evolution

Berserker has one of the highest damage outputs in the game, especially on the charge, which makes it ideal for cutting down enemy players. The trade-off is almost no defense, so ranged units punish it quickly if it gets caught in the open.

Mace is the best value in this tier. It carries the most balanced stat spread in the game with strong HP, solid damage, and good speed, and it pulls more easily than a 4★ unit. Its weak points are low attack speed and a lackluster charge.

Knight is the dedicated line breaker and does that job more cleanly than anything else. It also caps off the Mercenary evolution path, giving it value as both a summon and an upgrade goal, though grinding one out takes time and pays off less in the late game.

Imperial Wall is the premier defensive unit, with a huge HP pool and a shield that soaks ranged fire. Placed in Hold formation it can anchor a line against almost anything, but it evolves slowly from Shieldman and brings very little offense.

Cavalryman is one of the few mounted options and hits hard on the charge in open terrain. It evolves into the S-tier Lancer, so it doubles as a stepping stone, though it takes a while to build and gets awkward in enclosed maps.

Spear Vanguard is a balanced spear unit with good reach and strong formation play. It leans defensive and lacks a real charge, but it holds a line reliably and is the payoff for evolving Spear Militia.

B tier: solid in the right slot

Sentinel2★Evolution
Squire2★Evolution
Spear Militia2★Summon Banner
Longbowman2★Evolution
Pikeman2★Evolution

These units are competent when placed correctly and punished when they are not. Crossbowman gives reliable backline damage with better range than Archer, but it collapses without a shieldwall in front of it. Elite Javelineer is genuinely useful behind a shield line thanks to its block damage and accuracy, yet it is a sitting duck up close and never swings a fight the way an A-tier pick does. Imperial Halberder has strong HP and one of the highest damage figures among 3★ troops, but works best as a secondary defender rather than a carry.

Scout Rider is the fastest unit and the best flanker, and it feeds the Cavalryman-to-Lancer path, though Hold formations and spears shut it down easily. Sentinel is one of the sturdiest 2★ defenders with a good shield for protecting ranged units, but it needs a backline to matter. Squire and Spear Militia both earn their place mostly as evolution feeders into Knight and Spear Vanguard respectively, while offering decent buffer value during unit swaps. Longbowman is a step up from Archer in range and damage but folds in melee, and Pikeman is a dependable anti-charge body that stays situational.

C tier: cheap bodies and evolution fodder

Spearman1★Starter/Summon Banner
Archer1★Starter/Summon Banner
Halberder1★Summon Banner
Shieldman1★Summon Banner
Javelineer1★Summon Banner

Keep these for their low Star cost and their evolution paths, not their combat. Mercenary is the weakest fighter in base form, but it is the only route to Knight. Spearman exists to stop cavalry charges and little else. Archer is the cheapest ranged option and is outranged by everything above it, though it evolves into Longbowman. Shieldman makes a passable early shieldwall and slowly becomes Sentinel, while Halberder and Javelineer are early-to-mid filler that fold without support.

Do not delete a low-tier unit just because it ranks poorly. Several are the only entry point into much stronger forms, and they fill out a legal loadout while your Star Limit is still low.

How the ranking was decided

Each unit was scored on four things: raw combat value and how long it survives a fight, its Star Limit cost, and its versatility across attack and defense. Cost matters because an expensive troop that locks out two cheaper ones can weaken your whole formation, so a strong 3★ often beats a marginal 4★ in practice.

Evolution paths worth planning around

Several starter units grow into much stronger forms, and evolution is one of the biggest long-term power gains available. A unit must reach level 20 before it can evolve.

Base unitPath
MercenaryMercenary → Squire → Knight
ShieldmanShieldman → Sentinel → Imperial Wall
Scout RiderScout Rider → Cavalryman → Lancer
SpearmanSpearman → Pikeman
ArcherArcher → Longbowman

Ascension runs alongside evolution and strengthens a unit you already own by combining duplicate copies, permanently raising that troop’s stats. The general approach is to evolve your starter lines while ascending the summon units you have committed to.

Ascending a unit resets its level, so check and re-level your troops before you commit to the process.

Building a loadout under your Star Limit

The strongest theoretical four-unit setup is Spartan, Immortal, Mace, and Knight, but your Star Limit decides whether you can actually field it at once. That cap rises as your account level goes up, which is also why a unit you just pulled sometimes cannot be equipped, its star cost would push your loadout past the limit.

For most accounts, a realistic squad is one S or A pick, one role body such as Shieldman or Spear Militia for defense (or Immortal for aggression), and two cheap C-tier starters to fill the remaining slots. As your limit grows, swap the filler out for stronger bodies. Single pulls chase very low rates for Spartan or Immortal, so it is worth saving gems for multiple consecutive pulls and redeeming any active codes first.
