Capcom is putting a full expansion behind Dragon’s Dogma 2, and it borrows the name that longtime fans associate with the definitive version of the first game. Dark Arisen adds a new snowbound region, a second undead dragon to chase, a dozen fresh dungeons scattered across the existing map, and a pile of character creator options. It also lands alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 release of the base game.
Quick answer: Dark Arisen arrives October 9th, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Switch 2. Existing owners buy it as an expansion DLC; the Switch 2 version bundles the base game and the expansion together.
Dark Arisen release date, platforms, and how it is sold
The expansion launches on October 9th, 2026. On PlayStation 5 the storefront clock reads 04:00 AM UTC on that date. There is no separate PC or console staggering announced, and the base game itself received a permanent price cut earlier in the year in the run-up to the expansion.
| Product | What you get | Platforms |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Arisen Expansion | Expansion content only | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam |
| Dark Arisen (bundle) | Base game, expansion, camping kit, custom sounds, Norgan Fashion Set | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam |
| Switch 2 version | Base game and expansion in one package | Nintendo Switch 2 |
For players who own Dragon’s Dogma 2, the standalone Dark Arisen Expansion add-on carries a $29.99 price on PS5. Access to all expansion material, including the pre-order outfit, depends on owning the base game.
Capcom has framed the whole package around three stated goals drawn from post-launch feedback: enhanced gameplay, expanded adventures, and better value. In practice that means one new story region, a set of dungeon trials dropped into the world you already know, and a broader character creator.

Norgan and the Forsaken Dominion: the new snow region
Norgan, also called the Far North, is the stage for the Forsaken Dominion campaign. It was once a prosperous part of the kingdom of Vermund before it was abandoned for reasons the game does not explain up front. Heavy snow covers everything, and the creatures that took over the region are considerably nastier than what the roads around Vermund throw at you.

The region’s reward loop is built on relics. Monsters drop them when they die, and more are hidden out in the landscape for players who poke around. Taking a relic back to the Norgandian Settlement and having it appraised turns it into real gear with improved offense or defense, and certain pieces unlock unique skills you cannot get anywhere else. Capcom calls the repeatable version of this loop Relic Expedition Cycles, which keep generating challenges and rewards without a hard cap.

Appraised weapons can change how a fight goes rather than just adding damage. A relic axe that builds up fire, for example, can set a Norgan Giant’s fur alight and stun it long enough to break off its tusks.
The Fallen Dragon and Eir
The story hook is a cursed dragon whose heart starts beating again inside its own corpse. Its roar carries across the ruined north, and another Arisen answers it. When those two paths meet, the expansion promises something considerably darker than the Royce Dragon plotline of the base game.
Standing between you and that mystery is Eir, the woman featured in the key art. She already knows something about the hollow-chested Fallen Dragon and its history, and the campaign is built around unraveling her motives alongside your Pawns. The dragon itself is the expansion’s headline boss, an undead thing that keeps fighting after losing limbs — in the demo build, it kept swinging after its head was severed outright, then flattened the party with a wide magical blast.
Lost Rites: 12 dungeon challenges in the existing world
Not all of the new content sits in the north. Lost Rites adds 12 dungeon challenges laid out by the Pathfinder across the map you already explored in the base game. Each one is a newly uncovered location rather than a reused cave, and they hold rare equipment that belonged to past Arisens. If you have a finished save and no interest in restarting, these are the parts of the expansion that slot into your current world the fastest.
New hairstyles, tattoos, and character creator options
The Character Creator gets a batch of additions for both the Arisen and Pawns, including roughly 20 new haircuts, tattoo options, and finer facial construction controls. These are front-loaded choices, so if you plan to roll a new Arisen for the expansion, it is worth waiting until the update is live rather than building a character now.
What the TGS and Gamescom demos showed
Public hands-on builds have leaned on the Mystic Spearhand, whose double-sided spear mixes fast melee strings with lightning, fire enchantments, and protective barriers. The demo party wandered out of a snowy northern village, got jumped by Direwolves and bandits along a canyon river, fought a harpy over a fishing spot, and slipped past a tree-wielding Troll rather than committing to it.

The systems on show are the ones veterans already know, applied to harsher terrain. Grabbing large monsters with the grab button lets you climb a Troll, a Minotaur, or the Fallen Dragon and hack at a neck or head instead of ankles. Dungeons are stocked with props you can weaponize — red barrels can be picked up and thrown into groups of bandits for a large explosion, and oil jars soak an enemy so the next fire attack does the real work.
Fast travel also turned up repeatedly. The demo used an Eternal Ferrystone from the pause menu to jump straight to a discovered Portcrystal, which is a far lighter version of the ferrystone economy the base game shipped with.

Base game updates arriving before the expansion
Capcom has been patching the base game separately from the expansion, and those changes apply whether or not you buy Dark Arisen. The Eternal Ferrystone was added in an earlier update. The most recent round of changes brought additional save slots, adjustments to Dragonsplague, a Dragonsbauk Draught that cures it, and an increase to six weapon skill slots.

Pre-order bonus and the discontinued Deluxe Edition items
Pre-ordering or buying early gets you the Norgan Fashion Set, a northern outfit sent to your in-game item storage. You collect it by talking to an innkeeper at any inn. The deadlines differ slightly by store: Switch 2 and PS5 pre-orders qualify up to October 8th, 2026 at 8:59 PM PDT, while Xbox Series X|S and Steam pre-orders qualify up to 4:59 PM PDT the same day. The set itself only becomes available on October 9th, and Capcom notes it may be offered again later.
Two extras ship inside the bundled editions and remain on sale individually. The Explorer’s Camping Kit adds camping gear you can buy from in-game shops, and the Dragon’s Dogma Music & Sound Collection swaps some music and sound effects for those of the original game. Details for each platform live on the official Dark Arisen product page.
Several older items were pulled from sale ahead of the expansion, including the Deluxe Edition, the New Journey Pack, Harpysnare Smoke Beacons, Heartfelt Pendant, Ambivalent Rift Incense, Makeshift Gaol Key, Art of Metamorphosis, Portcrystal, Wakestone, and the Rift Crystal packs. Anything you already bought still works.
For anyone who bounced off Dragon’s Dogma 2 in 2024, the math is simple enough. The base game is cheaper than it was, the quality-of-life complaints have been getting patched out in the meantime, and the expansion drops a full snow region, a new dragon, and 12 dungeons on top of it in October.
