Respawn has been testing alternate lighting and weather states for maps that are already in Apex Legends. Instead of building new locations from scratch, the idea is to change the time of day and sky conditions on familiar ground, which changes how a map looks and how easily you can see across it.
Quick answer: Four to five lighting states have surfaced in testing — Dusk, Overcast, Night, Night District v2 and Default. Respawn has not announced any of them, and no release date is confirmed.
The weather and lighting conditions in testing
The conditions that have turned up are internal variants rather than a finished feature. They read like presets applied on top of an existing map, not a live weather system that shifts mid-match.
- Dusk — a low-light evening pass over the map.
- Overcast — a flatter, cloud-covered sky.
- Night — a full night-time state.
- Night District v2 — a night treatment tied to E-District.
- Default — the map exactly as it ships today.
The inclusion of a “Default” entry is the telling part. A named baseline alongside the alternates is what you would expect if the game is being set up to swap between lighting states, whether that ends up as a rotation, a limited-time takeover, or an event dressing.
How a lighting change affects fights
Lighting is not cosmetic in a battle royale. Dropping a map into dusk or night changes contrast between a player model and the background, lengthens shadows, and makes muzzle flash and ability effects far more obvious than they are at midday. Long sightlines that feel safe in default lighting stop being readable.
Overcast works the other way. It cuts harsh sunlight and washes everything toward the same mid-tone, which can make distant enemies harder to pick out against terrain rather than easier. Either way, the practical effect is that route choices and holding angles you have drilled for years would need rethinking on a map you already know by heart.
There is no indication that these states alter geometry, cover, or loot. They change how a map is lit, not how it is built.

Which maps are live right now in Marked Split 2
Split 2 of Season 30 went live on September 15 with a reduced rotation for public and ranked matches. That matters for the leak, because one of the tested conditions is attached to a map that is currently sitting out.
| Map | Status in Split 2 |
|---|---|
| World’s Edge | In rotation |
| Olympus | In rotation |
| Broken Moon | Returned to rotation |
| Storm Point | Out of the pool |
| E-District | Out of the pool |
Storm Point and E-District remain in the game, but they are out of the active pool until a later rotation. World’s Edge remains available and received more than 150 fixes for collision issues, exploitable hiding spots, and locations that could provide an unintended advantage.
Leaked October content in Apex Legends
The lighting work is not the only thing circulating for the back half of the season. A batch of October cosmetics has also surfaced, split between an anniversary tie-in and a Halloween set.
| Item | Type | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Titanfall 2 Tracker Set | Trackers | October 28 |
| Titanfall 2 Badge | Badge | October 28 |
| Sparrow Halloween skin | Legend skin | October |
| Alter Halloween skin | Legend skin | October |
| R-99 legendary skin | Weapon skin | October |
Titanfall 2 10th anniversary rewards
Titanfall 2 turns ten on October 28, 2026, and the rewards lined up for it are commemorative rather than flashy. A dedicated tracker set and a badge are the two pieces attached to the date, which fits the pattern of quiet, earnable markers rather than a paid collection event.
The connection is not sentimental filler. Apex Legends inherited its movement feel, much of its weapon lineup, and a lot of its sound design directly from Titanfall, and both games came out of the same studio.
Halloween skins for Sparrow and Alter
The Halloween batch centres on two of the newer legends, plus a legendary R-99 skin. Sparrow also has an intro select animation in the mix, showing him scaling a building with a cat before letting out a werewolf-style howl.
Sparrow arrived in Season 25 and Alter is also a relatively recent addition, so both are getting heavy cosmetic attention compared with the older roster. Sparrow is currently front and centre elsewhere too, appearing as Ryu in the live Street Fighter 6 crossover while Alter takes the Chun-Li skin.

What is officially confirmed
Respawn has not announced dynamic weather or alternate lighting states, and no date has been attached to them. Internal test data can be cut, reworked, or shelved entirely, so treat the list of conditions as a look at what is being trialled rather than a feature on its way.
What is live is the Street Fighter 6 crossover, which launched on September 15 alongside Split 2 and brings a remixed Olympus, a Hadoken Mythic Universal Melee with a matching deathbox, and eight iconic legend skins. The Marked midseason patch that shipped a day earlier carries the legend balancing, loot adjustments, and long-range weapon buffs for the rest of the season.
If the lighting variants do ship, the most likely first appearance is a limited-time takeover or an event dressing rather than a permanent change to the main rotation. Until Respawn says otherwise, the maps you drop into will look exactly the way they do today.
