Haldane Hotel Door Symbols Puzzle Solution in Silent Hill: Townfall

The exact 12-press symbol order for the New Game Plus hotel door, plus the Room 204 dial combination.

The exact 12-press symbol order for the New Game Plus hotel door, plus the Room 204 dial combination.

On the upper floor of the Haldane Hotel—located in the Shorefront District – South—you’ll find a door marked with 25 small symbols. Since no prompt identifies which symbols to press, it resembles a logic puzzle, but the solution is a predetermined sequence. Enter them correctly to open the door and reach a room containing the Strange Access Card.

Quick answer: Press Bird, Tree, Planet, Bird, Trinity, Sputnik, Sputnik, Fish, Spaceship, Planet, Dog, then Monument. The door only exists in New Game Plus, during Part 2: Zoe, while playing as Simon.

Requirements before the symbol door appears

If you walk into the hotel on a first playthrough and find nothing, you have not missed a step. The door is gated behind several conditions, and all of them have to be true at once.

  • You are in New Game Plus, not a first run.
  • You have reached Part 2: Zoe and are controlling Simon.
  • You have collected Richard’s Gift from the Town Square, which moves you into Shorefront – Different.
  • You have travelled to the Haldane Hotel and gone upstairs to the symbol-covered door.

The symbols are only visible in the Different version of Shorefront. Without Richard’s Gift in hand, the door is a normal hotel door.

Symbol press order for the hotel door

Twelve presses open the door, drawn from the 25 icons on its surface. Two symbols are used twice, which is where most attempts fall apart. Work down the list in order and do not skip the repeats.

PressSymbol
1Bird
2Tree
3Planet
4Bird
5Trinity
6Sputnik
7Sputnik
8Fish
9Spaceship
10Planet
11Dog
12Monument

Bird is pressed at positions 1 and 4, Planet at 3 and 10, and Sputnik twice in a row at 6 and 7. Pressing Sputnik once and moving on will not register as correct.

You know it worked when the door swings open on its own after the twelfth press. Nothing else on the panel confirms progress, so the door itself is the only feedback you get.

What the Strange Access Card unlocks

Inside the room, the Strange Access Card sits on the bedside table. It has no immediate use, and nothing in the room changes once you pick it up. Its purpose is the Sci-Fi ending, which also requires finding and interacting with three Strange Books spread across the rest of the game. Completing that ending route is what unlocks the Pistol-3000.

Room 204 dial puzzle: The other locked hotel door

The Haldane Hotel has a second, much earlier door puzzle that people often mix up with the symbols. It happens in room 204 during the first playthrough, and it uses three dials instead of icons — a day, a month, and a year. Every clue for it is inside the room.

From the phone booth in St. Amelia’s Town Square, dial 100. Simon is moved to room 204 at the hotel, and the door behind you locks. The bathroom door is the one you need to open.

Raise the CRTV and tune it to the yellow signal that appears in the room, then store the signal so you can play the recording back. Hold the tuning button, sweep the frequencies, and confirm when the marker sits inside the empty square.

Watch the recording through. The number 18 appears near the start, and a later frame shows a calendar with the month marked. That calendar frame is the part to read carefully rather than skim.
Examine the Room Service Card on the desk across from the bed. The Haldane Hotel memo lists a 1996 menu, and that year is the final dial value.

Use the bathroom door’s dials as follows: put 18 on the top, choose the calendar’s month for the middle, and enter 1996 on the bottom; the display may show 96 instead. Interact with the panel to confirm and lock the settings.

The month is the one value worth checking yourself. January and May have both turned up on that calendar, and difficulty settings can change puzzle answers, so read the frame in your own recording instead of assuming.

The dial mechanism clicks and the bathroom door pops open when the combination is right. The Room 204 Key is waiting on the sink counter, and taking it lets you leave the room. The second locked door in 204 cannot be opened at this point, so ignore it and head for the elevator down the corridor.
