Every district of Remedy Entertainment’s warped Manhattan in Control Resonant carries its own rank, and that rank climbs only when you finish content inside that district’s borders. Seven zones each track separately, so scattering your effort across the map leaves all of them half-finished.
Quick answer: Complete quests that end inside a zone, clear that zone’s World Feats, and defeat its Resonant. Work through one zone at a time instead of roaming between them.
What raising a zone rank actually gives you
Zone levels are fed by Zone XP, and each level you gain pays out immediately. Rewards include bonus Source and Health Elements, fresh side missions, and extra outfits for Dylan. Levelling zones is also one of the reliable ways to pick up additional Talent Points, which is why it pairs well with the moments in the campaign where you need to raise your Power Level before a tough mission.
That makes zone rank less of a completionist chore and more of a power source. If a story fight is beating you, dropping back into the zone you are already standing in and clearing its remaining activities is usually faster than grinding random encounters.

Quests that end inside the zone
A quest credits the zone where it finishes, not where you picked it up. Before you commit to a mission, check where its objective marker actually sits on the map. Side stories are especially useful here because many of them start in one district and resolve in another, so a little planning turns ordinary story progress into targeted rank progress.

World Feats and local tasks
World Feats are the short side activities scattered through each zone, and they exist mainly to hand out Zone XP. Most ask you to kill a specific miniboss or hold an FBC asset for a set amount of time, so they take a couple of minutes each once you know where they are. Clearing every marked task in a district is the bulk of its rank.
Zone bosses
Defeating the boss tied to a district adds a meaningful chunk of progress on top of the quest and task rewards. The tougher roaming Apex encounters you run into on rooftops and in open streets count as zone content too, so do not skip them when you are sweeping an area.

All seven zones and their Resonants
| Zone | Resonant | Where the fight sits |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown | The Artist | Fought during Orientation |
| Central | The Deserter | Patterned Factory furnace room |
| Evacuation Zone | None | No Resonant in this zone |
| West Incursion Zone | The Dancer | Patterned Theater |
| The Park | The Collective | Behind the central Mold Gate |
| Underpass | The Physicist | The Spire and Astral Plane |
| The Unknown | The Co-Director | Patterned Field Office route |
The Evacuation Zone is the one district without a Resonant, so its rank comes purely from quests and World Feats. Every other zone has a boss that both advances the Resonant questline and adds to the local rank when it dies.
Clear one zone at a time
The single biggest time saver is committing to a district and emptying it before you move on. Fast travel between zones eats minutes, and jumping back and forth means re-learning where each unfinished task sits. Sweep the map markers in one area, finish the quests that resolve there, then take its boss.
A workable route through the map is Downtown, then Central, the Evacuation Zone, the West Incursion Zone, the Underpass, and finally the Unknown. The Park sits outside that chain and can be handled whenever you like.
Activate the Map Kit in each zone the first time you arrive. It reveals the local map, which makes finding the remaining World Feats far quicker than exploring blind.

Resonant Cycles refill the World Feat list
Killing a Resonant triggers a Resonant Cycle, which resets the world state of Manhattan. Enemies and activities respawn and come back stronger, and the payouts for beating them go up accordingly. Crucially for zone rank, World Feats reset with a new batch of missions after every Cycle.
That gives you a renewable supply of Zone XP. If a district has stalled short of its next level, the simplest fix is to go take down a Resonant elsewhere and return to a freshly stocked list of tasks. The trade-off is a harder world, so make sure your Power Level and weapon form upgrades are keeping pace before you trigger the next Cycle.
The difficulty increase from a Cycle is permanent for that playthrough. If you are already struggling, level up before you kill the next Resonant rather than after.
How to confirm a zone actually ranked up
You will know a zone level landed because the reward arrives at the moment it triggers. Expect a payout of Source or Health Elements, and watch for new entries appearing in your Quest Log or a new outfit unlocking for Dylan. If a quest you finished did not move the bar you expected, it almost certainly resolved in a neighbouring district rather than the one you were tracking.
Maxing every district is a long job rather than a difficult one, and it pays out steadily the whole way. Since the Talent Points and upgrade materials feed straight back into your build, the zones you clear early make the later ones noticeably quicker.
