Slayers 2 v0.140: All Counters Now Share One Cooldown

What the shared counter timer means in a fight, and how the new global skill cooldown rule works alongside it.

What the shared counter timer means in a fight, and how the new global skill cooldown rule works alongside it.

Counters in Slayers 2 no longer run on their own separate timers. With the v0.140 patch notes, Ouw Productions moved every counter onto a single shared cooldown and made skill cooldowns global, which changes how often a defensive build can actually punish an opponent.

Quick answer: Using any counter now puts all of your counters on cooldown at once. You get one counter per cooldown window, not one per move.

How the shared counter cooldown works

Before the change, each counter tracked its own timer. If one counter was down, you could immediately reach for another and stay protected almost continuously. That is no longer possible. Counters now draw from one pool, so the moment you spend one, every other counter in your kit is locked out until that single timer runs out.

The practical effect is that a whiffed counter is far more expensive than it used to be. A mistimed read does not just waste one option, it removes your entire counter layer for the duration of the cooldown.

The global skill cooldown line sits alongside the counter change and points in the same direction. Cooldowns are now tracked at the character level rather than being spread across separate move slots, which closes the gaps players used to fill by rotating between abilities that were technically off cooldown.

What to change in your counter play

Treat your counters as one resource instead of several. Decide ahead of a fight which counter is your primary answer, because the others are not available as backup once the first one fires.
Hold the counter for the opponent’s committed move rather than throwing it out on the first swing. With no second counter to fall back on, an early read leaves you defending with movement and blocking alone.
Rebuild any loadout that relied on stacking multiple counters for uptime. Builds that leaned on back-to-back counters lose most of their value here, while kits with strong stuns, damage windows, and mobility pick up the slack.

Practise the new timing on a private server. Owners and moderators can use /pvp on and /pvp off in chat to control player damage for everyone, and /pve off removes NPCs so nothing interrupts the reps.

Not the same as the PvP toggle cooldown

Slayers 2 has a second, unrelated cooldown that players often mix up with this one. The PvP button on the left sidebar, sitting under Invites, also applies a cooldown after a successful switch, and pressing it again during that period returns the message “PvP toggling is on cooldown.”

That timer governs whether you can participate in player combat at all. It has nothing to do with how fast your counters come back, so seeing one message does not tell you anything about the other.

Where this sits in the wider balance pass

The counter consolidation lands in an update that also carried bug fixes, a console camera sensitivity fix, a mobile tool-use button in place of the old double tap, a crash safety system for Ouwigahara, and a Water Whirlpool nerf.

Read together, the cooldown rules are a defensive tightening rather than a damage change. Nothing about a counter’s individual output was touched, but the number of times you can lean on one over a fight is now capped by a single timer, and that alone is enough to push counter-heavy builds toward more patient, higher-commitment play.
