Jess’s back door in Silent Hill: Townfall stays locked until you track down a key that a note says was left with a neighbor. The trouble is that the neighbor’s address, Number 16, isn’t printed anywhere on your Shorefront District – South map. All you get is a red scribble someone added by hand, and it’s easy to walk straight past the building it points to.

Quick answer: Building 16 sits directly across from Number 14 on Farrow Street, facing Farrow Street Parking. Look for the numeral 16 painted beside a blue door next to a toppled “FOR SALE” sign.

Why you’re looking for Building 16 in the first place

This comes up in Chapter 4, Searching for Zoe, after the Scalpel from the Shorefront Family Clinic lets you cut open the gate through St. Amelia’s Park and reach the northern stretch of the district. Head into the alley beside Number 14 on Farrow Street and follow it into the rear gardens. An enemy patrols back there, so either swing a Plank at it or stay crouched and slip by.

A handwritten note on the rear door of Jess’s house is meant for Zoe; it says Walter at Number 16 has the back door key.

The key you’re after is called the 21 Farrow St. – Back Door Key, not a “16” key. The 21 refers to Jess’s address, which is why searching the map for a matching number gets you nowhere.

The red “16?” mark on the Shorefront District – South map

Open the map and zoom in on the Farrow Street area. Among the red annotations scrawled over the printed layout, one of them reads “16?” and sits right beside Farrow Street Parking. That question mark is the whole point: nobody was certain which building it was, so the address never got a proper numbered pin like the clinic (6) or the pharmacy (7).

Treat the mark as a rough pointer rather than a location pin. It tells you the building faces the parking area, which narrows the search to the row opposite Number 14.

How to reach 16 Farrow Street

Leave the rear gardens behind Jess’s house and climb back up the steps to street level. You want to be on Farrow Street proper, not in the alley network behind it.
Follow the fog-choked street past the parked vans and cars toward the parking area. Keep an eye on your CRTV as you go, since the route is open ground and enemies still wander this stretch.

Stop when you’re standing opposite Number 14 and look at the wall beside the blue entrance door. The number 16 is there, with a fallen “FOR SALE” sign propped against the frontage. Open the door and step inside.

Where the key sits inside the building

From the entrance, go straight upstairs to the first floor landing. The ground floor has nothing you need for this objective.
Enter the flat marked 1/2. That’s Walter’s place, and it’s the only door up here that matters.
Walk down the hallway into the living room and check the wooden table. The 21 Farrow St. – Back Door Key is sitting on top of it, and picking it up adds it straight to your key items.

Before you leave, sweep the upstairs apartment. One of the game’s Strange Postcards is tucked away in here, and there’s no chapter select to come back through later.

Confirming the key worked and what it leads to

Head back through the alley and gardens to Jess’s house, interact with the lock on the blue back door, and choose the 21 Farrow St. – Back Door Key. The door opens rather than giving you the locked prompt, which is your confirmation that you grabbed the right item.

After entering, head to the bedroom and take the Broken Stethoscope from the medical box on the bed. The scales puzzle in the Z Ellis room back at the clinic requires three items: this stethoscope, the Prescription Dosage Error Record from the pharmacy locker, and Zoe’s Lanyard Badge.

Once the stethoscope is in hand, the detour to Number 16 is done and the clinic’s scales are the next stop. Place the Broken Stethoscope on the left, the Prescription Dosage Error Record in the middle, and Zoe’s Lanyard Badge on the right to close out the chapter.
