A rundown of what HoYoverse has confirmed about Nodusfall’s difficulty balance, co-op design, character unlocks, and combat systems.

Nodusfall is HoYoverse’s mythology-themed action RPG, built around cooperative battles against colossal creatures in a world where divine order has collapsed. Nearly a month after its reveal, the developers addressed a batch of the most common community questions, clarifying how difficulty, solo play, character unlocks, and combat will function.

Quick answer: Most core content can be played solo, characters unlock through progression rather than gacha, combat runs on a customizable Divine Skills system, and PC is the only confirmed launch platform so far.

What Nodusfall is and the role you play

Nodusfall is described as a mythology-themed action game centered on multiplayer co-op. It marks a shift for HoYoverse away from its traditional gacha titles toward a darker fantasy setting with large-scale encounters and build-crafting.

In Nodusfall, you play as a Weaver: a celestial envoy who enters the mortal realm after divine rule has collapsed and society has fallen into disorder. Multiple mythologies are being woven together to portray civilizations destroyed in a devastating war, while you reconstruct a common history from the ruins of those fallen cultures.

The central threat is a corrupting force called Mal, which twists calamities into creatures known as Dreadnodi. As a Weaver, your task is to sever these entangled Dreadnodi and stop the world from collapsing entirely.

Difficulty and skill ceiling

HoYoverse is aiming to make the core mechanics easy to grasp. Newcomers who have little experience with this kind of combat should be able to get started without difficulty becoming a barrier to enjoying the game.

At the same time, there is a high skill ceiling for those who want a challenge. Mastery comes down to controls, team coordination, and character builds, giving experienced players room to push encounters further.

Early demo showings included forgiving battle mechanics as well. Players were able to revive fallen teammates during fights and return to combat after dying, which softens the penalty for mistakes in tougher encounters.

Solo play and multiplayer co-op

Solo players can tackle the majority of the core content on their own. Boss battles and other encounters can be approached at your own pace without relying on a group, so multiplayer is not mandatory.

That said, co-op is treated as the better experience in most cases. HoYoverse has built in a mechanic called Divine Drain, which can offer advantages during battles but only triggers through proper coordination between players.

A public development build featured four players using DPS, Tank, and Support roles while battling massive creatures. Since multiplayer is still being adjusted, the final party limit, matchmaking setup, and cross-play policies remain undecided.

Combat and the Divine Skills system

Combat includes more than standard attacks and secondary abilities; its distinctive foundation is a system known as Divine Skills. You can customize this system and activate effects serving offensive, defensive, or support purposes.

Mixing skills can create different results, allowing you to build specialized teams for particular boss encounters. Weapons, relics, and Divine Skills determine a build, while defeated creatures may provide additional skills, weapons, and resources.

Because Divine Skills are adjustable, you can retune your loadout to match a team’s needs or a specific encounter rather than committing to a single fixed setup.

Character unlocks and monetization

Progression, rather than gacha pulls, is how Nodusfall grants characters. Playing the game unlocks them directly, giving you multiple strategic and roster choices without depending on random draws.

The game is free to play. The studio has not finished deciding how monetization will work, and it has not yet explained the planned cosmetics, purchases, or other ways it may generate revenue.

Activities outside of battle

Nodusfall is more than a monster-slaying loop. The world is packed with lore and companions, and there are quieter activities to break up the action.

Outside battles, you can perform a duet with a friend, unwind in a hot spring, or travel through the world while uncovering its enigmatic stories and collecting the myths surviving from ruined civilizations.

Platforms, release, and pre-registration

PC will be available at launch and is the sole confirmed platform so far. HoYoverse has yet to say whether Nodusfall will release on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo systems, or mobile, with news about any other platforms expected through official channels later.

There is currently no announced release date or launch window. Players can pre-register, and submitting the official survey could provide an opportunity to join testing in the future, but no public beta date has been confirmed.

A newly revealed game attracts fake keys and copied sign-up forms. Only pre-register through the official Nodusfall page, never pay for an invitation, and never share a password with a supposed recruiter.
