Control Resonant: Urban Survival Walkthrough (Olivia, Granny, and the Brother)

Urban Survival is one of the longer side stories in Control Resonant, and it starts as a simple trap investigation before turning into a string of personal errands for a paranoid survivalist. Dylan Faden has to clear a mine-filled garage, recover two oddly named “people,” and then track down the man’s estranged brother in the Evacuation Zone.

Quick answer: Read the file outside the trapped parking lot, reach the bunker intercom, then bring back Olivia (a plant at Pulse Fitness) and Granny (an urn behind door code 8521). Finally grab the car fob, the apartment key at the Subway Fault, and the brother’s photo.

How to start Urban Survival

Head into the Evacuation Zone in the southern part of Manhattan and look for the trapped parking lot. An investigation-order file sits just outside the area. Interacting with it opens the quest and sends Dylan after the person planting mines around the neighborhood.

The mines hurt enemies too. Dash past the tripwires when you need to move quickly, and lure Hiss into the explosives to thin out the encounter before it gets crowded.

Reach the bunker and talk to the survivalist

After sweeping the parking lot, use the far exit—the one opposite your entrance. Go left, eliminate foes along the way, and find the doorway to a building surrounded by another mine cluster.

Go inside and use the wall intercom. The survivalist refuses to leave his fortified shelter and mistakes Dylan for a government agent. A Hiss wave interrupts the talk, so defeat them before returning to the intercom.

Talk with him a second time; he sends Dylan to recover two things important to him—Olivia and Granny. Their locations are marked on your map, and either can be handled first.

Recover Olivia and Granny

Neither one is a person. Olivia is a potted houseplant, and Granny is a cremation urn. The gym is the closer of the two objectives, so start there.

Olivia at Pulse Fitness

Go to the Pulse Fitness gym on Main Street. Enemies block the entrance until you clear them. Once inside, take the first door on the left into the back office and pick up Olivia, the potted plant on the desk.

Granny behind code 8521

Follow the next marker to the survivalist’s apartment building. Take the elevator up, enter 8521 on the door keypad, and search the rooms. The urn sits on a table in the back room behind some shelving. Grab it, then return both items to the bunker and place them on the green-lit supply table beside the intercom.

Find the survivalist’s brother

After you deliver Olivia and Granny, the survivalist sends Dylan after his estranged brother. You cannot go straight to the brother’s home. You need the car fob first, and it leads you to the apartment key hidden out in the Subway Fault.

Go into the side chamber beside the bunker. On the metal shelf, take the Survivalist’s Car Keyfob; then collect the Survivalist’s Log collectible from the desk.

Follow the marker northeast across rooftops and barriers, then drop into the sinkhole marked The Subway Fault. The green station wagon is stuck in the turquoise crystal formations.

Instead of checking every car, use the fob once and watch the minimap. A marker briefly flashes on the vehicle that responds. Go to it, unlock it with the fob, and take the Survivalist’s Apartment Key. Fend off the Mold and Hiss that ambush you here.

Travel to the brother’s brick apartment building, ride the elevator up, and unlock the door with the key. In the living room you find the brother suspended in mid-air and possessed by the Hiss chant. He cannot be saved.

Pick up the framed photo of the two brothers from the floor in front of him. This memento is the last item you need to bring back.

Complete the quest and collect the rewards

Back at the warehouse, eliminate the Hiss left behind. Then use the intercom and report his brother’s fate to the survivalist. During this conversation, Dylan suffers a short Hiss corruption pulse. Set the framed photo on the supply table beside Granny and Olivia; the log then confirms Quest Completed: URBAN SURVIVAL.

Stay for a moment instead of departing. Revisit the bunker’s nearby side room and collect extra Source plus an Aberrant Shard, then continue.
