A continuous, HUD-free walk through Mount Yōtei’s forests, marshes, meadows, and cliffs across shifting weather and light.

The second “Wander in Watanabe Mode” video for Ghost of Yōtei is a straight showcase of the game’s open world. It follows Atsu, the game’s female protagonist, on a single uninterrupted walk through the landscapes ringing Mount Yōtei, moving between forests, wetlands, flower fields, and mountain overlooks under different times of day and weather.

Quick answer: It is one continuous third-person walk as Atsu through the biomes around Mount Yōtei, with the HUD and all navigation markers switched off so only the terrain, wildlife, and weather stay on screen.

What Watanabe Mode looks like here

The footage runs with a clean screen. There is no minimap, no objective text, and no on-screen prompts, so the camera stays fixed on the world itself. Atsu appears in period armor, with dark hair tied into a low ponytail, a green patterned undergarment, dark leather and braided plate with yellow cord accents, arm guards, and a wrapped sash. She carries a katana and a tanto on her belt throughout.

The clip is built to demonstrate environmental variety rather than combat or story. Across roughly four minutes it moves through more than a dozen distinct settings, each with its own lighting and atmospheric behavior.

The full route through Mount Yōtei’s biomes

At dusk, Atsu starts along a dirt track in a dim pine forest, heading toward Mount Yōtei’s snow-covered summit beneath a clouded twilight sky.

The atmosphere grows bleaker as the trail narrows into mud between dead trees, lit torches, and animal carcasses suspended from ropes—a defiled area that clearly feels like enemy ground. Atsu then enters a broad, shallow marsh veiled in moving ground fog, where bare trunks stand scattered and outpost buildings sit far away on the horizon.

The scenery becomes more colorful once Atsu steps onto a grassy plain. A red fox runs across the meadow toward a palisade outpost in the distance, while the path continues through brilliant green fields thick with yellow, white, and red wildflowers beneath changing sunlight, with Mount Yōtei ahead.

Atsu travels through a frontier settlement built from wooden huts topped with turf, timber fences, and villagers busy with their tasks. Past the settlement, she goes up a softly sloping hill covered in flowering purple lupine, bordered by birch and pine groves.

Water features dominate the middle of the route. Atsu walks beside a rushing river canyon lined with waterfalls, thick moss, wooden stairways, and carved stone statues, then arrives at a still forest lagoon covered in floating white blossoms and fed by cascades beneath a canopy of ancient trees.

Autumn scenery dominates the final stretch. Atsu moves through a creekside clearing carpeted with red maple leaves and stirred by the wind, while deer graze in silence. She then ascends a lofty grassy ridge scattered with autumn trees and evergreens, looking out over a coastal bay in the distance.

The walk closes on a high cliff covered in blue flowers. From the edge, Atsu looks out over a vast winding river valley toward Mount Yōtei, its summit crowned by a distinctive lenticular cloud.

Biome sequence and timestamps

Weather, lighting, and wildlife on display

The clip leans on dynamic atmosphere to sell the world. Weather and light shift as Atsu moves, rather than staying fixed in one state.

  • Heavy fog and low-drifting marsh mist
  • Shifting cloud shadows moving across meadows
  • Wind-blown grass and falling autumn leaves
  • Variable time-of-day lighting, from twilight to bright sun
  • A lenticular cloud sitting over the summit in the closing shot

Ambient wildlife populates the route as well. A red fox runs across the meadow, birds perch and take flight, and deer graze in the autumn clearing, all reacting to the world rather than to the player.

More Watanabe Mode locations

Related Watanabe Mode footage widens the picture beyond this walk, showing settlements and shrine paths reached the same way, with the HUD off. One stretch has Atsu crossing a green field toward a small settlement with Mount Yōtei rising behind it.

In other sections, Atsu crosses amber grass toward a torii gate set before snow-capped mountains. She also climbs stone stairs covered with pink cherry blossoms, passes through open gates, and continues toward a white fortress.

Edition and rating shown in the trailer

The game logo reads Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition in the lower right of the frame throughout, alongside a ginkgo leaf emblem. The lower left carries the ESRB Mature 17+ (M) rating badge for the full runtime.

Taken together, the video functions as a scenery reel. It is less about mechanics and more about proving how varied the terrain, weather, and wildlife around Mount Yōtei can look when nothing but the world is on screen.
