The Paladin armor set is a tier-4 upgrade in RuneScape: Dragonwilds that swaps your bronze plate for a stronger silver set. Each piece is built at the Armour Bench from a bronze base item, iron bars and Padded Cloth, so most of the work happens before you ever open the crafting menu.

Quick answer: The full set costs 24 Iron Bars and 5 Padded Cloth, plus one Bronze Helmet, one Bronze Platebody and one Bronze Platelegs as the base pieces, all crafted at the Armour Bench.

Paladin armor set requirements

Every piece reuses its bronze equivalent as the base item, so keep your bronze helmet, platebody and platelegs rather than scrapping them. The numbers below are the totals for each slot.

Raw materials and where to get them

The set pulls from three supply chains: iron for bars, flax and fleece for cloth, and ram horns for the loom upgrade. The Stormtouched Highlands cover most of these in one trip, with iron ore nodes, wild sheep and rams, and flax growing along the ridges.

Casting Rockplosion on an ore node shatters it instantly into loose chunks, which is faster than swinging a Bronze Pickaxe. Large Iron Ore Nodes carry several sub-nodes, so a single blast can leave you overencumbered quickly. Equipping Leggings of Lightness adds carry weight so you can haul more iron per trip.

Grow flax and shear fleece for thread

Padded Cloth starts as two kinds of thread. Coarse Thread is spun from flax, and Wool Thread is spun from fleece taken off sheep and rams. Both go through the Spinning Wheel before they ever reach the loom.

Flax takes longer than the other crops: after you sleep, berry bushes and wheat are ready the next morning, while flax requires over one complete in-game day. Sow it ahead of time, use Humidify once to water all plots, and drink a Weak Focused Farming Potion for 15% extra farming XP as you plant the beds.

Clear dead stalks and weeds with a spade before replanting, or the plot will not accept new seeds.

Upgrade the Loom with a Loom Harness

The base Loom cannot weave Padded Cloth. You first attach a Loom Harness upgrade, which unlocks the tier-4 cloth recipes. Gather these before you visit the loom:

  • Ash Planks
  • Oak Logs
  • Iron Bars
  • Wool Thread
  • Ram Horns

Craft the harness and attach it to the Loom. Once it is fitted, the loom’s recipe list adds the cloth types you need for the armor.

Spin thread and weave Padded Cloth

Place fleece in the Spinning Wheel for Wool Thread, then process flax into Coarse Thread. Maintain a supply of both, because every cloth type uses these threads.
Weave Rough Cloth at the Loom. Each piece takes 1 Coarse Thread and 1 Wool Thread.
Combine 1 Wool Cloth and 1 Rough Cloth to weave one Padded Cloth. You need five Padded Cloth for the full set, so plan for enough thread to cover five Rough Cloth and five Wool Cloth.

Smelt iron and craft the pieces at the Armour Bench

Smelt raw iron ore into Iron Bars at the furnace. You need 24 in total across the three pieces, so smelt the full haul before you start.
Open the Armour Bench and select the Paladin’s Helm. With a Bronze Helmet, 6 Iron Bars and 1 Padded Cloth in your inventory, craft it.

Craft the Paladin’s Platebody (10 Iron Bars, 2 Padded Cloth, Bronze Platebody) and the Paladin Platelegs (8 Iron Bars, 2 Padded Cloth, Bronze Platelegs) from the same bench.

You know the craft worked when the piece appears in the Armour Bench output and equipping it replaces your bronze armor in that slot. The character model changes to the silver Paladin plate once each piece is worn.

Farming iron, fleece and vault cores between crafts

Because the set needs 24 Iron Bars, expect several highland runs. A Weak Focused Mining Potion adds 15% Mining XP while you break nodes, though dying removes the active buff, so drink it after you have cleared nearby enemies.

Vault runs are a reliable way to bank runes and Vault Cores for new Lodestones on the same trips. Vault chests holding a Vault Core respawn on a timer of three in-game days, roughly 72 minutes. You do not have to defeat the vault bosses, such as the Vault Overlord, Vault Archon or Rat King, to grab the central chest or siphon a Law Animo Vent. Sprinting past them works, and leaving unwanted recipes in the chest does not stop it from resetting.

Other tier-4 recipes to plan for

The same benches that build the Paladin set gate the rest of your tier-4 loadout. The Blacksmith’s Bench holds the Abyssal Whip recipe, which calls for parts like Swamp Thread and an Abyssal Spine on top of vault materials, so it is worth checking its list while you are already smelting iron.

Ranged and magic players lean on the Fletching Bench and the Armour Bench for their own upgrades, from the Rune Crossbow to hoods and robes. Those recipes share the thread and cloth pipeline you built for the Paladin set, so keeping the Spinning Wheel and Loom fed pays off across every gear type.

With the Loom Harness fitted and a steady supply of iron, flax and fleece, the full Paladin set comes down to smelting 24 bars and weaving five Padded Cloth. Build the pieces in whatever order you prefer, then equip each one to replace the matching bronze slot and confirm the silver plate on your character.
