Core brings Tyr its first urban, night-set battlefield and turns on full eight-tank squads.

Tyr’s new Core update takes the sci-fi vehicle-combat game into urban combat for the first time. Instead of open terrain, its nighttime map features cramped streets, hidden corners, and far-reaching industrial views. The update also enables full squads of 8 players.

Quick answer: Tyr’s first city arena is also its first battlefield at night, with tank fights designed for close range. Core also supports full 8-player squads. Tyr is free to play on Steam.

What Core adds to Tyr

Core is the first urban environment in Tyr and the first map staged under the cover of night. Earlier battlefields leaned on open terrain, but Core is packed with industrial sectors, narrow corridors, and contested street corners. The change reshapes how tanks move and where they can hide.

Two features define the layout. Space is limited, so every corner becomes a fight worth holding. Long sightlines cut through the map at the same time, which means crossfire and fast flanks can punish anyone who fixates on a single lane. The map also runs open trainyards with rail cars, giving crews gaps to ambush through.

Fighting in Core’s streets

Close quarters reward heavy armor. Tanks duel in narrow alleys using defensive shields, energy shells, and thick plating to hold the line and force the angle in tight spaces. Turning a street into a brutal short-range brawl is the whole point of holding a corner.

The long corridors flip that logic. A transforming quadrupedal spider tank can deploy stabilizing legs and fire straight down a corridor, punishing enemies who stray into the open. Positioning matters as much as raw armor.

The map rewards a handful of core tactics that fit its tight geometry.

  • Hold the corner to control who enters a street.
  • Side scrape to angle your armor and bounce incoming fire.
  • Use long sightlines to set up crossfire on exposed enemies.
  • Ambush through rail car gaps in the trainyards.

Full 8-player squads

The update also raises squad size, letting you field a full formation of eight tanks together. That turns Core’s tight streets into large, chaotic firefights with more armor to coordinate and more angles to cover.
