A rundown of the ships, jobs, co-op crew, story campaign, and where to buy the maritime sim.

Seafarer: The Ship Sim puts you in command of working vessels across an open world modeled on Northern Europe. You take contracts between harbors, haul cargo, answer distress calls, fight onboard fires, and slowly grow from a single boat into a full fleet. The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 with NVIDIA WaveWorks 2.0 driving the ocean and wave motion, and it plays solo or with a crew.

Quick answer: You can play Seafarer: The Ship Sim now on PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It offers solo play and online co-op with up to four players.

Where to play Seafarer: The Ship Sim

Full release arrived on September 24, 2026, after Early Access began on October 7, 2025. astragon Development makes the game, and astragon Entertainment publishes it; NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud streaming is also supported.

The base game is $24.99. A daily deal on Steam cuts it 50% to $12.49 through October 1. The Voyager Edition bundles the base game with the Voyager Pack for $34.99, and the Voyager Pack sold on its own is $10.99, adding two ships, a drone, and cosmetic outfits.

The same game is listed on the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation Store for PS5, and the Microsoft Store for Xbox Series X|S. Xbox play includes cross-platform multiplayer and co-op, and online multiplayer on console requires a Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription.

Ships you can command

The fleet ranges from small, agile craft up to heavy commercial and emergency vessels. Each class handles differently and suits different jobs, so your choice depends on the contract in front of you.

  • Small rigid-inflatable boats and fast boats
  • Offshore patrol and rescue vessels
  • Container ships such as the BigTrip
  • Bulk dry-goods carriers
  • LNG tankers

Jobs and mission types

Work is organized through a Job-Log that lists harbor contracts, campaign chapters, challenges, and free-trade runs. Assignments cover several distinct types of maritime work.

  • Cargo transit between ports
  • Container loading with gantry and shipboard cranes
  • Bulk aggregate transfer using clamshell unloaders
  • LNG pumping through the ORCA operating system
  • Search and rescue, including man-overboard recoveries
  • Marine firefighting and patrols

LNG work is the most technical of the set. The ORCA screen manages four tanks and lets you balance pump speed and flow, with rates shown live in cubic meters per minute. You can also scout ahead with a surveillance drone before committing to an approach.

Rescue and firefighting jobs come with their own tools. You throw lifebuoys to people in the water, retrieve life rafts, and use water cannons to knock down fires on burning vessels. On-screen markers point out hazards and rescued people at sea.

Career progression and reputation

You start as an aspiring captain and build a name across different harbors and factions. Completing missions raises your reputation, unlocks new opportunities, and lets you expand your fleet. Some contracts only open once you reach the highest reputation in a given harbor.

Beyond the campaign, a Quick Play option lets you take on jobs more freely, and daily challenges and radio calls feed a steady stream of work while you travel.

The story campaign

In narrative mode, you play through the story of Teddy, a seasoned captain carrying a troubled past. Sabotage, piracy, and buried secrets draw you into a sea-bound mystery about guilt, trust, and redemption. Story-linked contracts include logistics jobs for Ruben Brooks, CEO of Crosstransport Logistics.

Customizing your fleet

The Vessel Editor lets you personalize each ship. You can rename vessels, pick color schemes, and apply a company logo or emblem such as a captain portrait, anchor, compass, paper boat, sea monster, or lighthouse. Ships shown in the editor include Lancer, Nordic Power, Herbert, Density, and Nordic Discovery.

Multiplayer co-op

Up to four players can crew a ship together online. In co-op you share onboard duties, coordinate during missions, and split the work of larger jobs such as firefighting or a big cargo run. Crossplay is supported on Xbox alongside PC.

What the full release added

The move to full release brought eight new missions, four of them main assignments tied to specific harbors.

Main missionWhere to find it
Flying DutchmanCrescentport, at highest harbor reputation
A Light on the HorizonStettach
Forbidden FreightStettach, at highest harbor reputation
Eddy’s Delivery ServiceMettington, Crescentport, Stettach, and Drachdelen

Four side missions also appear while sailing the open sea rather than starting at a harbor: Seal Appeal, Discord, A Sound Anomaly, and Secrets of the Deep.

Two career features now open sooner, giving you access to key systems earlier: Fast Travel at Level 1 and Crew at Level 2. Mission payouts have also been adjusted upward for special and campaign missions. Once completed in single-player, every campaign mission plus three special missions is available to play again in Quickplay.

Between the range of vessels, the mix of cargo, rescue, and firefighting work, and the four-player crew option, Seafarer: The Ship Sim is a full working life at sea rather than a single activity. Pick a platform, start with a small boat, and build your reputation from there.
