Ignition Commander (Betrayal) is the Mythic fire unit added to Anime Expeditions in Update 3.0, and it is built entirely around damage-over-time pressure. Modeled on Leonard Burns, the captain of Special Fire Force Company 1, it stacks heat on nearby enemies, stuns and rewinds them, then punishes the whole area with burst damage. Update 3.0 also reworked how burn damage scales, which pushes this unit to the front of the current fire lineup.

Quick answer: Ignition Commander (Betrayal) is a Mythic Flame/Magical unit unlocked through the Update 3.0 Battlepass. Run the Draconic trait so it benefits from the update’s 120% DoT boost.

How to unlock Ignition Commander (Betrayal)

The unit is a Battlepass reward in Update 3.0, so you earn it by progressing through the pass rather than pulling it from a banner. Once it is claimed, it appears in your Units menu as a Mythic-rarity Flame and Magical attacker, listed at Level 50. That entry in the Units list is your confirmation that the unlock went through.

Draconic trait and the Update 3.0 DoT buff

Update 3.0 raised the damage-over-time bonus tied to the Draconic trait from 50% up to 120%. Because Ignition Commander’s whole kit revolves around burn and heat stacks, that change makes Draconic the standout choice on this unit.

Draconic gives three effects at once: +20% damage, +120% DoT damage, and a 5% reduction to overall cost. The cost cut is why the deployment price sits at ¥1,870 instead of a higher base value. Unbound remains a possible alternative, but on a DoT-focused unit like this one, Draconic’s burn multiplier is the deciding factor.

Zone mechanics: Ignition Zone, Inferno Zone, and Ignition Release

The unit’s range is split into two rings, shown in the field as a yellow boundary for the outer zone and a red circle for the inner zone. Enemies behave differently depending on which ring they stand in.

Ignition Zone (outer 60% of range)

Any enemy inside 60% of the unit’s range enters the Ignition Zone and gains one Heat Stack per second, up to a cap of 10 stacks. Reaching 10 stacks applies Burn to that enemy. Stacks stay on the target as long as it remains in range.

Inferno Zone (inner 30% of range)

Enemies that reach the inner 30% of range enter the Inferno Zone. There they take a 2-second Stun, and once the stun expires they are hit with Rewind for 7 distance. This can only happen once per enemy. If that same enemy walks back into the Inferno Zone, it instead builds 2 Heat Stacks per second. If a Rewind pushes an enemy out of range, it keeps the Heat Stacks it already has.

Ignition Release

Ignition Release is the burst payoff. When a Rewind triggers from the Immovable passive, the unit deals 100% damage to every enemy inside the Ignition Zone, on a 15-second cooldown. If the affected enemy is already at maximum Heat Stacks, that burst deals an extra 25% damage. This effect also comes from the Ignis Restraint equipment passive.

Passives: Immovable and Human Furnace

Two passives drive the zone system. Immovable is what places enemies into the Ignition and Inferno zones, builds their Heat Stacks, and applies the stun and rewind sequence described above. Human Furnace converts those stacks into extra damage: the unit deals 3% more damage per Heat Stack on a target, and when an enemy hits 10 stacks, it receives Burn. Together they mean the longer an enemy lingers in range, the harder it is hit.

At 2-star Ascension, the unit also gains two damage bonuses of +1.04x each, both applied on top of its base stats.

Attack upgrades and stats

The unit starts with a Circle AoE attack and changes its attack shape at two upgrade breakpoints.

UpgradeAttackShape and timing
Base—Circle AoE
Upgrade 4Flame Fist3 hits, Cone AoE (Size 40), over 4.47s
Upgrade 8Nova Cyclone1 hit, Circle AoE (Size 10), over 4.82s

The stat spread below covers the fresh placement and the fully upgraded state at Level 50. The higher figure in each range reflects the values with the Draconic trait applied.

StageDMGRNGAttack DPS
Base (Lvl 50)2,729–3,28121.3–22.6—
Max (Upgrade 10)19,224–23,12434.5–36.64,491–5,401 / s

Critter increases the next DoT by 25% after the unit applies Burn, which chains cleanly into the heat-stack burn. Shinigami Sword adds 0.9% damage per enemy in range up to an 18% cap, so it rewards packed lanes.

Deployment cost and placement limit

You can field up to 3 copies at once. Each placement costs ¥1,870 with the Draconic discount applied, and taking a single copy from base to max costs about ¥51,170 in total. Because the zones overlap, spreading placements along a chokepoint keeps more enemies inside the Inferno ring where the stun, rewind, and Ignition Release trigger.

Other Update 3.0 units

Ignition Commander (Betrayal) is one of five new units in the update. The rest of the lineup includes Crimson Captain (Moon), Water Sage (Founder), Devil (Hero), and Fallen Angel (Holy), all listed in the Update 3 patch notes.

Earlier updates set the pattern for how these units and their full cutscenes are teased ahead of release, with character models shown off in the central lobby before they can be summoned or claimed.

For reference, the in-game Update Log keeps the full history of past updates and the units they introduced, which is useful when comparing what each Battlepass and event has offered over time.

If you are building around burn damage this update, Ignition Commander (Betrayal) with the Draconic trait and Ignis Restraint is the cleanest setup: keep enemies inside its range long enough to cap Heat Stacks, and the stun, rewind, and Ignition Release loop handles the rest.
