Control Resonant: How to Complete the Cat Picnic Sketchbook Puzzle

The Cat Picnic is one of Dylan Faden’s Sketchbook secrets in Control Resonant, tucked into a quiet courtyard in the Central district. Walking onto a blue-and-white checkered blanket triggers a memory about a childhood book, and setting up the scene lets Dylan draw it. Finish the setup and you earn an Undefined Reading and a new page in his Sketchbook.

Quick answer: Place the three loose props (a picnic basket, a drink bottle, and a lucky cat statue) onto the checkered blanket, then step back onto the stairs and hold Draw to sketch the scene.

Cat Picnic location in Central

The blanket sits in a lower paved courtyard in Central, south of the Factory and Dig Site Threshold area. From a nearby checkpoint, follow the directional signs toward Central and The Park, work down the ramps and through the alley doorways, then head into the small scenic courtyard past the warning signboard about leaving the controlled area.

On the map, find the question-mark marker labeled Secret, northeast relative to the Field Office and southwest relative to the Patterned Factory. If it is not visible yet, visit the spot once to uncover it.

Once inside the courtyard, look for the blue-and-white checkered blanket on the ground. Approaching it brings up the Cat picnic prompt and starts Dylan’s dialogue about the book.

How to set up and complete the puzzle

Three props are scattered around the immediate courtyard. Pick each one up, carry it to the blanket, and drop it in place. The order does not matter, only that all three end up on the blanket.

Walk onto the checkered blanket to trigger the Cat picnic prompt and Dylan’s comment about the childhood book. This confirms the puzzle is active.

Lift the woven picnic basket off the ground beside the overturned metal chairs, carry it over, and set it on the blanket.

The drink bottle on the nearby wooden park bench is next: pick it up, carry it back, and leave it on the blanket.

Take the short brick staircase up to the upper tier, retrieve the ceramic lucky cat statue from the brick planter ledge, and add it to the blanket with the other items.

Step back off the blanket and onto the courtyard stairs. Once the interaction prompt changes to Draw, hold the button to start the sketching animation.

If the Draw option does not appear, one of the props is still missing or you are standing too close to the blanket. Confirm all three items are placed and back away onto the stairs.

Rewards and how to confirm it worked

When the sketch cutscene ends, the secret completes and the rewards flash on the left side of the screen. You can verify everything registered by checking your progress:

+1 Undefined Reading is granted on completion.
+100 Central points are added to the district total.
The Cat Picnic page unlocks under Archives, in Dylan’s Sketchbook (entry 2/11).

The finished page shows the assembled scene, with the note on the back reading, “For Jesse – sorry it’s not as good as in the book.” Clearing every Sketchbook puzzle across the districts also counts toward the Work-Life Balance trophy and achievement, so this is one of several to tick off while exploring Central.
