Pumpkin Chests are a seasonal container added for the Fortnitemares run of Chapter 7 Season 4. Breaking one drops a random Sprite, and smashing your first chest clears the “Smash a Pumpkin Chest to find a Sprite” Nitemare One quest in Battle Royale.
Quick answer: Land at a spooky point of interest such as Nightmare Neighborhood or Freaky Fields, find an orange, pumpkin-shaped chest with a purple glow, then hold the Smash prompt to break it for a Sprite.

How to spot a Pumpkin Chest
These chests look nothing like the standard loot containers. Each one is shaped like a carved jack-o’-lantern, colored orange, and gives off a dark purple glow that stands out against the surroundings. Once you know the look, you can usually catch the glow from a distance while gliding or running between buildings.
Pumpkin Chests spawn in set spots but do not appear every match. A location can be empty on one drop and hold a chest on the next, so check several areas if the first is bare.

Pumpkin Chests turn up more often around the main Halloween points of interest. The confirmed spots below are the most reliable places to begin your search. Because spawns are not guaranteed, the spooky POIs are the best areas to loop through if you want to find one fast.
| Location | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Lifty Lodge | Outside the front entrance of the large lodge to the north |
| Freaky Fields | North-west corner, plus one by the house on the east |
| Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzaria | Just to the east, before the tunnel |
| Nightmare Neighborhood | By the playground in the south-east |
| Shaken Sanctuary | Building on the far north-west corner, plus the hillside to the far south |
More spawn points likely exist beyond these, so treat the list as a starting map rather than the full set. Nightmare Neighborhood and Freaky Fields tend to be the busiest early on, so a quieter loot route nearby can be more productive if you keep losing the first fight.

How to smash a Pumpkin Chest

What Pumpkin Chests drop
Every Pumpkin Chest drops one Sprite, and the pull is random from the Sprites added across the season. They are one of the better ways to collect Sprites for the rest of Chapter 7 Season 4. Compared with other containers, they lean toward dropping the Spooky Dash Sprite, The Deer Sprite, and the Vampire Sprite.
The current Fortnitemares Sprite pool and what each one does:
| Sprite | Effect |
|---|---|
| Spooky Dash | Provides replenishing dash charges |
| Vampire | Restores health as you damage enemies |
| The Deer | Boosts melee attacks |
| Dumpster Dive | Finds extra-health food from hiding spots |
Two more Sprites, Honey and Obsession, are set to join the pool on October 15.

Quest reward and how to confirm it worked
Your first Pumpkin Chest break clears the Nitemare One Battle Royale objective to smash a pumpkin container and locate a Sprite. An on-screen message confirms completion and awards +15,000 XP. It also counts as one completed quest on the Fortnitemares rewards track, which includes the Jack-a-Nape skin.
After the chest breaks and the Sprite drops, remember to carry it to a purple extraction zone and extract before the run ends if you want to keep the Sprite itself.
Pumpkin Chests remain available until Fortnite Override ends on October 31, leaving the entire Halloween period to gather Sprites and complete the quest.
