Free keeper upgrade with two PlayStyle paths, its exact stat boosts, and the club cards worth slotting in.

The Goal Guardian Evolution is live in FC 27 and costs nothing to run, so any qualifying keeper in your Ultimate Team club can take it. It lifts an eligible shot-stopper to 80 overall and hands out a goalkeeping PlayStyle, with a choice between two different Level 2 paths.

Quick answer: Use any goalkeeper at or below 79 overall with no more than 7 PlayStyles. Strong club picks include Ivan Meslier, Gadella, Kepa, Livakovic, Urbig and Nick Pope.

Goal Guardian Evolution requirements

A card has to clear all three checks below before it can enter the evolution. Anything above 79 overall or carrying eight or more PlayStyles is locked out.

  • Overall: Max 79
  • PlayStyles: Max 7
  • Position: GK

The evolution expires on 22 October at 17:00, so a keeper has to be fully upgraded before then.

Stat boosts and PlayStyle paths

There are two upgrade levels. Level 1 is fixed. Level 2 splits into two options, and the one you choose decides the PlayStyle your keeper walks away with. The number after each stat is the cap that attribute cannot exceed after the boost.

Level 1 upgrades

Level 2, Option B (Deflector)

Rush Out favors keepers who come off their line to close down one-on-ones and breakaways, while Deflector pushes more parried saves back into play. Option A also lands slightly higher Reactions at a cap of 78 versus 76 on Option B.

How to complete the evolution

Pick your keeper and start Level 1. You then need to play 2 matches in Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty with the active EVO player in your lineup. Rush, Rivals, Champions and Live Events matches count as well.
Move on to Level 2 and choose Option A or Option B. This stage asks for 1 match on at least Semi-Pro difficulty in Squad Battles, or in Rivals, Champions and Live Events, again with the EVO keeper on the pitch.

Once both stages are cleared, the card’s attributes update to the new caps and the chosen PlayStyle appears on it. That stat change and the added PlayStyle are your confirmation the evolution finished.

Best goalkeepers to use

Any eligible keeper will do, but these club options give you a recognizable name and solid base attributes to build on. Ivan Meslier stands out thanks to his 6’5″ frame, which pairs well with the extra Diving and Reflexes.

  • Gadella
  • Ivan Meslier
  • Ozer
  • Scherpen
  • James Trafford
  • Penders
  • Kepa
  • Livakovic
  • Urbig
  • Nick Pope

An 80-rated keeper from this evolution likely won’t dislodge a top option already in your squad. The value is in starting a chain, since later goalkeeper evolutions can stack onto this card and push it toward a genuine starting role over time.
