Stigmas are the class-defining skills in Aion 2, and Stigma Shards are the only currency that unlocks and levels them. You collect a handful automatically as you level, but the volume you need at endgame comes from shops and conversions. Here is where every shard comes from and how far each one goes.
Quick answer: You earn Stigma Shards from leveling up, buy them in the Abyss, Shugo Festival, and Nightmare growth shops, and morph Unstable Stigma Shards into more through Substance Morph.

Unlock Stigmas at level 22
Stigmas open at character level 22, but only after you finish the Ascension quest The One Who Hears the Voice. That quest raises you to your third Ascension, which the Stigma tab checks for before it lets you learn anything.
Your Ascension reward includes wings and one Stigma Shard. Since that shard covers the cost of your first Stigma at level 1, you can register a skill as soon as the system becomes available.
You start with one Stigma slot. More slots open automatically as you level, up to four in the Global version. The Korean and Taiwan clients allow six at max level, but Global is currently capped at four.
| Character level | Stigma slots |
|---|---|
| 22 | 1 |
| 27 | 2 |
| 32 | 3 |
| 37 | 4 |
Each class has 13 Stigma skills to pick from, so you will always have more options than slots. You can learn several to test them, then register the four that fit your build.

Three shops sell Stigma Shards outright, each using a different currency and each capped per character. Two of them only open once you hit the level 45 cap.
| Source | Price | Limit per character |
|---|---|---|
| Shugo Festival | 300 Shugo Coins each | 35 |
| Abyss Trade Shop (Growth) | 10,000 to 25,000 Abyss Points | 200 (50 per step) |
| Nightmare Trade Shop (Growth) | 1,500 Phantasmal Fragments each | 35 |
The Abyss shop offers the largest stock, with prices rising as you purchase more: each of the first 50 shards costs 10,000 Abyss Points, each of the following 50 costs 15,000, the next 50 cost 20,000 apiece, and the last 50 cost 25,000 apiece. That makes 200 shards in all.
Currency sources differ: earn Abyss Points through open-world Abyss PvP, Supply Requests, the Arena, Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, Dimensional Invasions, attendance, and limited-time events. Periodic Shugo Festival minigames award Shugo Coins, while Nightmare mode drops Phantasmal Fragments.
The Abyss and Nightmare growth shops only unlock once your character reaches the level 45 cap, so before then your shards come almost entirely from leveling and conversions.

Shards you earn from leveling up
Every character level past 22 drips Stigma Shard points into your pool. You get 1 point per level from 23 to 39, then 2 points per level from 40 to 45. From level 46 onward you gain 1 regular point per level plus 1 Superior Stigma Shard point per level.
Leveling to the level 45 cap grants 29 points; add the 1 point from Ascension for a total of 30. You can use those to raise four Stigmas to level 5 and one of those to level 10, with no points left for more. Shops and conversions are the only sources beyond that.
Convert Unstable Stigma Shards through Substance Morph
Unstable Stigma Shards are a separate material that you turn into usable Stigma Shards in the Substance Morph menu. Plenty of content that never drops shards directly will reward Unstable Stigma Shards, so those activities still feed your progression.
Unstable Stigma Shards show up in Ascension Trial score rewards, Hidden Cubes, Transcendence dungeons, Awakening Battle, Abyss Directive rewards, and various weekly or limited-entry activities. Check the item description before you discard anything, since these are part of the same upgrade path.
Inside Substance Morph you choose between two options. The guaranteed morph uses more materials for a 100 percent success rate, while the cheaper gamble uses fewer materials but can fail. Pick the guaranteed route when you cannot afford to lose materials.

How many Stigma Shards a skill needs
Every Stigma skill uses the same price curve, and the cost per level doubles every five levels. Taking one skill from level 1 to level 20 costs 75 Stigma Shard points. A full loadout of four skills at level 20 costs 300.
| Stigma level | Shards per level | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | 1 | 5 |
| 6 to 10 | 2 | 15 |
| 11 to 15 | 4 | 35 |
| 16 to 20 | 8 | 75 |
At levels 5, 10, 15, and 20, each Stigma unlocks another specialization, making its opening five levels an inexpensive, rewarding investment. Beyond level 20, advancing Stigma skills requires Superior Stigma Shards. Since the final five levels take more resources than the first fifteen put together, choices made early carry the greatest weight.
Spread shards across your four slots at level 5 first to grab every first specialization, then concentrate on the one skill that carries your build.

Equipping, refunding, and swapping Stigmas
Open the Skills menu, switch to the Stigma section, and select a skill to acquire it. Once learned, register it to one of your Stigma quickslots. You will know it worked when the skill appears in your skill window and you can drag it onto your action bar.
Stigmas can be refunded for free, so there is no respec penalty for experimenting. You can also save full Stigma loadouts as skill presets, which is the fast way to switch between a damage-focused PvE setup and a mobility or crowd-control PvP one without rebuilding by hand each time.
Prepare your loadout before combat: you cannot change equipped Stigmas once a fight begins, and a Stigma skill on cooldown blocks skill-preset changes. Keep separate presets ready for the activities you play most.
