Amanita Design is developing Machinarium 2 as a direct follow-up to its 2009 point-and-click adventure. The studio revealed it at The Triple-i Initiative showcase on 8 October 2026, over 17 years after the original. The sequel retains the first game’s hand-drawn, rusted-metal aesthetic and wordless storytelling, while making Josef and the robot Berta playable again.
Quick answer: Machinarium 2 is Amanita Design’s PC sequel to Machinarium, revealed on 8 October 2026. You can wishlist it on Steam now, and no release date has been confirmed.
What Machinarium 2 is and who is making it
Machinarium 2 is a point-and-click puzzle adventure developed and published by Amanita Design, the Czech studio behind Botanicula, Samorost, Chuchel and Happy Game. Jakub Dvorský, the studio’s founder, returns as designer. The sequel follows the 2009 original, which built its reputation on silent, visual puzzle-solving set inside a decaying machine world.
Dvorský framed the long gap plainly, saying the team is “not getting any younger, and the world seems to be ending, so if we were ever going to make Machinarium 2, now is the right time.” The game is confirmed for Windows (PC), with no other platforms announced.

Add to Google Preferences →The story: Josef, Berta, and a hidden valley
The sequel picks up after the events of the first game. Josef and Berta escape the city of Machinarium by helicopter but crash in a desolate region. They descend a nearby cliff into a hidden valley settled by two robot tribes, both of which are slowly running out of power.
One tribe lives high in the mountains inside the Elektrona monastery. The other occupies the city of Oilton in the valley below. Both communities face a grim future as their energy drains away, and the two reunited heroes arrive in the middle of it.
How the gameplay works
You solve point-and-click puzzles and brain teasers by interacting with characters and objects, the same core loop as the original. The change this time is that you control both heroes. You can freely switch between Josef and Berta, and each has unique abilities and interacts with the environment in different ways.
That split is built into the puzzle design. Some challenges are meant to be cracked only by using both robots together, so progress depends on moving between the two rather than sticking with a single character. The game remains single-player, and it keeps the non-verbal presentation, so the story is told through animation and visuals instead of dialogue.
The world shown in the reveal trailer
The reveal teaser strings together hand-drawn locations with a steampunk style, featuring Josef and his companion in many scenes. It starts in an empty desert scattered with tree stumps, where an unusual robotic craft sits atop a rocky rise; next, the Amanita Design logo appears above a settlement in a ravine.

From there the footage moves through a dense green forest overlooking a distant city, a mountain tramway where small robots ride a hanging basket, an excavator lowering a robot into a pit, and an aged, multi-tiered city square. Later scenes include a lakeside pipeline spilling water, a satellite dish focusing sunlight onto a glowing bulb, a cliffside painter’s studio, and corrugated-iron industrial slums.

Underground sections also feature, including a mine cavern where a robot drives a drill cart along rail tracks toward a large furnace. The teaser closes on two small robots standing at a high tower balcony, looking out over green valleys and rocky spires, before the Machinarium 2 title and a Steam wishlist prompt appear.

Music and the returning soundtrack
Tomáš Dvořák, who records under the name Floex, composed the original Machinarium score and is writing the music for the sequel. He has said he does not treat it as a straight sequel, instead approaching it as its own project where he can experiment and avoid comparing it directly to the first game.

Platform, wishlist, and release timing
Machinarium 2 is listed for PC and is open for wishlisting on Steam, which is the prompt the trailer ends on. No official release date has been confirmed, so the launch window is currently listed as to be announced.
