The Grappling Hook arrived with the Frozen Trail update as an Uncommon Quick Use gadget that latches onto most surfaces and lets you climb, swing, and rappel into spots the ground route never reaches. Unlike the Legendary Snap Hook, which reels you in on its own, the Grappling Hook keeps movement under your control. To use it on repeat instead of hoping for loot, you need its blueprint.
Quick answer: Hit Level 12 on the free Frozen Trail Reward Pass to claim the Grappling Hook Blueprint, then craft the hook at a Utility Station Level 1 with 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper, and 1 Mechanical Component.
What the Grappling Hook is
The Grappling Hook sits in your Quick Use slots and weighs 5. Aim it at a surface, let it anchor, then swing, lower yourself, or pull up toward the attach point. Movement draws on your stamina, so watch the meter before committing to a long climb or a gap crossing. On Pendola Pass, where vertical terrain matters, it doubles as both an approach tool and an escape option when a fight turns against you.

Add to Google Preferences →Claim the blueprint from the Frozen Trail Reward Pass
The Frozen Trail Reward Pass is the quickest option. Its free track includes the blueprint, so you can skip the premium pass. Earn Reward Points by completing Feats, which reset daily, to advance through the pass.
Reach Level 12 on the free track and the Grappling Hook Blueprint is yours to claim. The recipe registers the moment you collect it, so you can head straight to crafting afterward.
At Level 6, the free track awards two Grappling Hooks that are already made, giving you a chance to try the gadget before unlocking its blueprint.
Research the blueprint at your Outpost
You can instead learn the recipe at the Workshop’s Research Station. To use this route, you must first have the Outpost up and running.
Loot or buy the hook without the blueprint
World loot is another possible source for the blueprint, though it has no set spawn point and isn’t guaranteed anywhere. While scavenging, check containers for copies; major map conditions improve your odds. For the best chance, raid during Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm and search containers like Weapon Cases and Raider Caches.
You don’t need the recipe to obtain a Grappling Hook. Nomadic Envoys offer it in the Traders tab, and several new Frozen Trail missions provide hooks as quest supply items. These let you try one out, while crafting whenever you want requires the blueprint.
Grappling Hook crafting recipe
Once you’ve learned the blueprint, use a Utility Station Level 1 to make the Grappling Hook. Its inexpensive ingredients are commonly available across the surface.

| Mechanical Component | 1 |
Rope, an Uncommon Topside Material, is found in commercial and residential areas; Celeste also sells it for 10 Assorted Seeds. You can find the Uncommon Topside Material Cable Stripper among industrial and mechanical loot. Both items stack in your inventory, making a small stock worth holding if you intend to bring a hook on every raid. Recycling a used Grappling Hook returns 1 Rope and 1 Cable Stripper.
Confirm the blueprint is unlocked
In Speranza, select a blueprint you looted or bought, then choose Learn and Consume; this uses up that copy. A checkmark appears once you’ve learned the blueprint, and it can’t be consumed again. With the checkmark showing, visit the Utility Station Level 1 crafting list to make a Grappling Hook whenever you have the materials. Unlocks from the Reward Pass or Research Station add the recipe automatically, letting you head straight to crafting without consuming a copy.
