How the Future Stars upgrade path works
Future Stars items are a live campaign, meaning the cards improve based on how each real player performs in their club’s domestic league. Tracking started on October 9, 2026, and only league matches count toward progress. The upgrades you earn are then applied in one batch on February 3, 2027.
Requirements come in two sets. The NWSL, MLS, Liga MX, and LPF use lower thresholds because their seasons are shorter; all other players face the higher global requirements.

If a player already has a PlayStyle+, the PlayStyle+ milestone grants a base PlayStyle instead. If a card already has a 5-star Weak Foot, the final milestone grants 5-star Skill Moves instead. That is why most cards rated 87 and above lean on the Weak Foot or Skill Moves reward, since their ratings are already near the 87 cap and many already carry a PlayStyle+.
A player must actually feature in a match for it to count toward a clean sheet. Appearances without playing do not qualify.
Which positions count as attacker or defender
- Attackers and midfielders (goals and assists): CM, CAM, LW, LM, RW, RM, ST.
- Defenders and goalkeepers (clean sheets): GK, RB, LB, CB, CDM.
A CAM is treated as an attacker, while CDM and CM typically fall under the defensive clean-sheet requirements. The exact classification for each card is listed in that player’s bio inside the game.
Future Stars Academy Evolutions
The Future Stars Academy Evolution returns and lets you build your own Future Stars card from a young forward. It is free to unlock and runs across four stages released on October 9, 11, 13, and 16, 2026.
Eligible players must play ST or CAM and be born on or after October 9, 2003. The first Academy stage also caps the starting card at a maximum 80 overall, a maximum 86 Pace, and a maximum of 7 PlayStyles. At the final level you choose one of three pathways, pushing your player toward pace and movement, clinical shooting, or agile ball control, including a Weak Foot or Skill Moves upgrade depending on the route.
How to confirm your upgrades landed
Each card tracks its own progress in-game, so you can open the player item to see how many starts, goals and assists, or clean sheets have been logged against each milestone. The stat boosts themselves do not change the card instantly. Instead, every earned reward is applied together on February 3, 2027, after which the item’s overall rating, Weak Foot, Skill Moves, or PlayStyle will update to reflect the milestones you hit during the tracking window.
