Kilowatt Games’ goblin survival game is free to try on Steam now, with online co-op for up to eight players.

Isle Goblin is a top-down pixel-art survival crafting game where you play as a goblin reclaiming your island home after a human invasion. It moved from closed to open testing during The Triple-i Initiative October 2026, and the playtest is live on Steam right now.

Quick answer: Starting October 9, 2026, you can play Isle Goblin’s test build on Steam at no cost, teaming up online with as many as eight players. The game has no announced release date.

What Isle Goblin is

The setup is a goblin island overrun by humans, and the goal is to take it back. You start by creating a goblin through a character creator that offers body type, skin tone, hair, hair color, nose, nose color, and eyes, then drop into a world built around exploration, gathering, and village-building.

Isle Goblin is made by Kilowatt Games, a solo project led by a developer who spent three years building it while working as an electrical engineer. It is published by Fireshine Games and Pocketpair Publishing. The trailer leans into that solo-developer story with hand-drawn black-and-white skits cut between the gameplay.

You can watch the reveal trailer below.

The open playtest and 8-player co-op

Pocketpair revealed the open playtest and its trailer at The Triple-i Initiative on October 9, 2026. Groups of up to eight can connect online to share an island, gather around a campfire, and take on dungeons and boss fights together.

The trailer frames the multiplayer as rebuilding the island side by side, including defending a settlement walled off with spiked barricades against human attackers. You join through the game’s Steam store page.

Official updates are posted through the Pocketpair Publishing channels, including the Japanese-subtitled gameplay trailer.

What you do on the island

You explore, collect materials, craft items, and develop a village to use as your base. In one settlement scene, a goblin resident offers to tend the beacon, leaving you free to build; it captures the feel of a fire-centered home camp as you venture farther afield.

Mining is central. You break rocky walls for resources and, deeper down, mine explosive blocks in red cavern depths. Around that, the game layers in survival and life-sim systems you can dip into between combat.

  • Spear-fishing through a timing mini-game
  • Raising a pet spider named Spidina, with breeding shown through a “New Creature” screen
  • Nighttime foraging and inventory item inspection
  • Research topics that strengthen your village and equipment

Items can be unusual. The Elf Lung, for example, is described as useful for storing air and can be consumed to speed up breathing for breath instruments, cutting breathing time by 30% while playing one.

Goblin villagers and traders

Your village fills with goblins who have their own routines and roles. The currency is teeth, which you spend with the traveling merchant. Here are the named characters shown in the trailer.

CharacterRole
GizmoAppraises unidentified human artifacts so they can be equipped
MichaelTraveling merchant who buys and sells for teeth
GrellaVillager who asks for a grog table
MerlNocturnal villager active at nightfall
FigVillage goblin with dialogue

Gizmo’s appraisal matters for gear. An unidentified human artifact starts out with unclear uses, and once appraised it can be slotted into an armor pocket. Michael’s stock includes oddities like a Wedding Dress that equips in a chest armor slot for 4000 teeth.

Bosses and combat

Combat is top-down and tied to the human invaders. Boss fights carry a health bar across the bottom of the screen, and the trailer shows sword swings, dodging attacks, and group assaults on snowy outposts and a church-like interior at night.

Two human bosses are named: The Artificer, a mechanical opponent shown in the opening clip, and The Bard. These sit alongside the exploration and village-building as the harder challenges, and they are the kind of fight the eight-player co-op is built to handle.

When Isle Goblin releases

There is no release date yet. The open playtest on Steam is the way to play Isle Goblin right now, and once it is installed you will land in the character creator before starting on the island. For anything beyond the playtest, the full launch timing has not been confirmed.
