The Snowfoot is the big, pale-furred, ape-like brute of Norgan, with long claws and a ridge of short horns running over its head and shoulders. When it turns up, the game throws up a banner reading “Massive Enemy Encounter / Encountered: Snowfoot and others,” though its health bar carries no name. You’ll also hear it called a snatching-beast, because it raids relics and spoils for its hoard.

Quick answer: The Snowfoot is weak to Lightning, resistant to Fire, and has 240,000 HP. Stagger it with pawn lightning, strike its head while it’s down, then loot the Snatching-Beast’s Talon from its carcass.

Snowfoot weaknesses and damage multipliers

Lightning is what breaks this fight open. It’s the one element the Snowfoot takes full damage from on its body, and it’s the one that staggers the beast and knocks it flat. Fire is the worst element to lean on, since the Snowfoot resists it. Every hit also counts for more against the head than the body, so aim high whenever you can.

ElementBodyHead
Lightning1.0x1.2x
Slash0.8x1.0x
Strike0.8x1.0x
Ice0.8x1.0x
Holy0.8x1.0x
Fire0.6x0.8x

Health sits at 240,000, shown as a thin magenta bar with four small dots under its left end. Each dot stands for another full bar, so five bars in all. The count is the same in the three fights below.

Where the Snowfoot appears in Norgan

  • North Valgrian Frostgrove — on the snowy slope uphill from Northwall Campground, on the way to the fort gate. It arrives alongside smaller enemies, which is the “and others” in the banner.
  • Snatching-Beast’s Lair — the cave in the Norgan Snowfield tied to the side quest “The Snatching-Beast.” It’s asleep on a raised stone dais in the inner room when you walk in.
  • Snowfall Valley Derelict Passage — in the pillared hall on 1F. It appears as you walk back into the hall after copying the slab in the side room that the powder keg opens.

These are three Snowfoot fights across Norgan’s story and one side quest, not a running tally of every spawn in the region.

Snowfoot attacks to watch for

Its moves are all physical, but its size and speed make them dangerous in tight spaces. It rears up to full height before a big swing, and that upright pose is your cue to get out from under it.

  • Wide arm sweeps with the claws.
  • Two-handed overhead slams that throw up snow and stone.
  • Charges and leaping stomps that cover a lot of ground fast.
  • In the lair, once it’s hurt, it leaps off the cave walls into flying kicks.
  • Indoors it chases you into tight spots and can end up jammed in a doorway, leaving its back and legs open.

When it enrages, its fur takes on a red-pink glow and it swings far more wildly. Fighting it in the open while it’s glowing, with nothing to stop it, is how you get flattened.

How to beat the Snowfoot

This plan works as a Fighter with sword and shield and three pawns.

Bring lightning. A pawn’s lightning spell wraps the Snowfoot in purple arcs and stops it mid-attack. It gets thrown back against walls and, before long, knocked flat on its back or onto its side.
Every time it’s down, run to the head and chest and unload your strongest skills. The head takes more damage than the body from everything, so this is where the bar drops fastest.
When it’s back on its feet, work from behind. Burst Strike and plain sword combos into the legs and flanks keep chipping it while staying clear of the claws.
Climb onto its back and stab down from the shoulders. Eviscerating Skewer is a Fighter skill that works well from up there. Let go before your Stamina runs out, because it thrashes hard to shake you off.
Let the pawns hold it. A pawn can grab the staggered beast or seize a leg, which drops it to its hands and knees. Finish it there.

In the Snatching-Beast’s Lair the Snowfoot is asleep when you enter, so your opening hits land for free. Don’t lean on fire anywhere, though — pawn fire spells will set it alight, but it resists Fire, so the damage is thin compared with lightning. Ice lands at normal strength, but lightning is still the one to pick.

Each kill in the North Valgrian Frostgrove and in the lair paid out +97,198 XP and +798 Dcp. The one in the Snowfall Valley Derelict Passage hall paid +91,798 XP and +762 Dcp.

Snowfoot drops and the Snatching-Beast’s Talon

Examine the carcass after the fight to pull materials and spoils from it. The piece worth chasing is the Snatching-Beast’s Talon, a chunk of the beast’s claw described in-game as a forging material. It weighs 0.35 kg and sells for 900 G.

The talon goes into forging this gear:

  • Smithed Coldmarch Cuisses
  • Smithed Infiltrator’s Hosen
  • Smithed Snowskip Skirt

A Snowfoot can also drop Onyx, Boreal Tuber, Aged Scrag of Beast, Scrag of Beast, Lantern Oil, Abandoned Supplies (Rare), Fine Fruit Roborant and Fine Harspud Roborant. On top of that, the carcass gives up appraisable spoils — a Lv 3 Plastron in the Frostgrove, Lv 3 Bowstaff and Lv 3 Light Weaponry in the lair, and Lv 3 Light Weaponry with Lv 3 Ancient Long Weaponry in the hall.

The Snatching-Beast side quest

The Snowfoot in the lair guards three of the five stolen supply packs for the quest “The Snatching-Beast.” Where the lair sits, where each pack lies, and what Wash pays for returning them are laid out in the walkthrough for that quest.

A couple of things trip players up. The snatching-beast is not a separate monster — it’s just the game’s other word for a snowfoot, and the talon is named after that nickname. And while fire does burn the beast, it takes only 0.6x from fire on the body against the full 1x it takes from lightning, so treat fire as a last resort. There is also a pawn monster badge named “Snowfoot Savager”.
