In Norgan’s main story, you encounter the blemmyae twice: a massive, fur-covered creature with no head or face. An enormous open mouth occupies its torso, serving as both its most dangerous attack and your target. The game uses a lower-case spelling in its text, and the Tutorial Logbook entry is titled “Blemmyae Devouring.” Its health bar has no name, and no banner appears when the fight begins.
Quick answer: Strike its mouth and upper back, and use lightning. If it gulps down a party member, keep hitting its mouth to make it let them go. Avoid fire whenever you’re covered in oil.
Where you fight the blemmyae
Two blemmyae appear as you move through the campaign. These are the two you are most likely to meet first, not a count of every one in Norgan.
Putrid Copse (Soul Searching)
Your first encounter takes place in Putrid Copse, a misty clearing of snow and bare trees. Polyeidus sends you to look for missing soldiers, with the objective “Search for the soldiers in Putrid Copse.” On entering, the area name appears; then the monster emerges from the fog and the objective updates to “Rescue the soldier from the abomination.” The captive soldier is Morgus. The quest refers to the creature only as the abomination, never giving it a name.
Mordria Temple (Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way)
The second blemmyae drops into a stone hall in front of a locked iron portcullis, during the quest “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way.” It arrives the instant the objective “Search for a key to the door.” appears. The hall is strewn with ice spikes, hanging chains, a ruined stair and dead soldiers along the walls. Killing the beast is not the objective, but it stands between you and the bodies. Once it falls, you pick up the Temple Key from a dead soldier in the corner of the same hall.
You do not have to deliberately start a fight in Mordria Temple. The blemmyae attacks as soon as you begin searching for the key, and the key is in the same hall.

A narrow magenta health bar sits at the screen’s top, with five small dots beneath its left side. Each dot represents another full bar in reserve: when the visible bar empties, a dot disappears and the bar fills again. The final segment consists of one bar and one dot; after that, nothing remains. Both encounters begin with all five dots.
Its total Health is 300,000.
The maw grab and freeing a swallowed pawn
The fight’s defining move is a grab into the maw in its torso: the blemmyae lunges, snatches a party member, and stuffs them inside. Morgus is already being swallowed when the Putrid Copse encounter begins, and the creature seizes someone again later. In Mordria Temple, it catches a pawn twice. Each time, your pawns cry out for help.

When a party member is caught, drop whatever you are doing and strike the mouth until the beast releases them. The Tutorial Logbook entry “Blemmyae Devouring” lays out the stakes: a pawn swallowed whole becomes forfeit and is lost, while a swallowed Arisen takes massive damage. A pawn even points out that the creature is almost all mouth, which makes it a wide, easy target. From its shoulders you can stab straight down into the maw; from the ground, hit the open mouth at the front.
What “doused in oil” means
In Mordria Temple, the blemmyae can coat you with oil. Dark droplets stick to the Arisen, prompting a pawn to warn you about fire. This condition is called Tarred. Oil itself deals no damage, but while you are coated, fire attacks hurt more and you are much more likely to ignite. If fire hits you in this state, you become Torched and take heavy damage at regular intervals.

The practical danger is that flames fly around that hall seconds later. While you are oiled, stay clear of every fire source, including your own party’s fire spells and any burning ground, until the oil wears off. Being drenched by water removes the Torched state if you do catch fire.
How to beat it as a Fighter
With sword and shield, the plan is to climb, stab the upper body, and cut the legs out from under it. The blemmyae punishes anyone standing in front of it with fist sweeps, two-handed slams and stomps, and in Mordria Temple it charges into walls, so fighting from its flanks and back is far safer.

A single slam can kill outright. Carry Wakestones so a fatal hit puts you straight back on your feet at full Health instead of ending the fight.
Weak points, elements and resistances
Its upper body is much more vulnerable than its limbs, so climbing up to attack is especially effective. Bladed strikes deal well over twice as much damage to the area the game counts as its head as they do to the body. Lightning is its weakness; fire is the least effective element against it.
| Attack type | Body | Head area |
|---|---|---|
| Slash | x0.4 | x1.1 |
| Strike | x0.4 | x0.8 |
| Lightning | x0.5 | x1 |
| Ice | x0.4 | x0.8 |
| Holy | x0.4 | x0.8 |
| Fire | x0.3 | x0.6 |
The highest multiplier on any part of its body reaches x1.3. It is weak to Lightning and immune to both Sleep and Frostbite, so do not waste time trying to freeze or sleep it. In plain terms, aim blades at the top, lead with lightning, and leave fire at home.
Drops and rewards
Clearing a blemmyae pays a large chunk of experience. A kill pays roughly 190,000 to 200,000 XP and about 1,400 to 1,500 Dcp. Examine the carcass afterwards to collect its loot.

The game describes the Grotesquely Gnarled Tooth as a powerful blemmyae tooth used in equipment forging. It weighs 0.20 kg and sells for 5,000 G. It is used to craft either Mantle of the Arisen-Saint or Profane Cloak.
The Ring of Demonsbane empowers its wearer against wicked beings. It weighs 0.01 kg, has a sale value of 1,500 G, and is usable by every vocation. Blemmyae may also drop Scrag of Beast, Aged Scrag of Beast, Rotten Scrag of Beast, Rotten Beast-Steak and Abandoned Supplies (Rare). Hunting them contributes to the Blemmyae Butcherer pawn badge, so taking a pawn familiar with these battles benefits both of you.
