Helping a child in Norgan feed her hound turns into a permanent treasure-finding perk. “In for a Hare, in for a Hound” asks you to bring Ilsa a single piece of alpine hare meat, follow her direwolf Freki to a hidden chest, and report back. Finishing it lets you borrow Freki for treasure walks whenever you want.
Quick answer: Give Ilsa one Alpine Hare Meat from Valgr Ravine, follow Freki to her chest among the standing stones over Lake Norgan, then return to Ilsa to finish the quest and unlock her treasure walks.
How to start the quest and find Ilsa
You need the Forsaken Dominion main quest Chilling Tidings finished first. Ilsa stops you on the path just inside the stone archway gate of the Norgandian Settlement. A grey-white direwolf lies beside her. She explains that the village keeps tame wolves as hounds, that monsters have made prey scarce, and that this one is fond of hare.
The quest requires Chilling Tidings to be finished first. The quest banner reads “In for a Hare, in for a Hound” with the first objective, “Obtain some alpine hare meat.”

The objectives flip in this order as you work through it, so you can track progress against the quest log:
- Obtain some alpine hare meat.
- Deliver the alpine hare meat.
- Follow Freki.
- Tell Ilsa of Freki’s discovery.
- Completed: In for a Hare, in for a Hound

Look just beyond the settlement for alpine hares: they are small, white, and fast. They flee as soon as you approach, making a bow, spell, or pawn attack a much surer way to take one down than pursuing them with a melee weapon. The delivery requires one piece of Alpine Hare Meat. Consider collecting extras, since Freki consumes meat on each subsequent walk.

The closest hunting ground is Valgr Ravine, the path just beyond the stone archway. Hares run on the slopes there, and a pawn’s kill counts, so the objective can tick over to “You obtained some alpine hare meat” moments after you leave the gate. The second spot is the Norgandian Foothills, the snowy grass slopes above Lake Norgan on the far side of the ravine path, where a hare sits in the frosted brush and another runs near a round stone tower. Walk over the dead hare to pick up the meat.

Alpine Hare Meat ages over time, turning first into Aged Alpine Hare Meat and then into Rotten Alpine Hare Meat, so hand it over before it spoils rather than hoarding it.
Deliver the meat to Ilsa

Follow Freki to her chest
Freki exits through the stone archway and descends into Valgr Ravine. She moves ahead, pauses, and waits until you catch up. She will not fight during this trip, so take care of the enemies yourself: serpents on the slope beneath the gate, harpies near the water, then more serpents along Lake Norgan’s shore. Clear each encounter to get her moving again.

Stay near her. If you wander too far off her intended path she may stop guiding you, and you will have to go back to Ilsa to pick the trip up again. While she travels with you, the prompt on her reads “Interact with Freki (Hold),” which opens four choices.

Her route leads down to the pebble shore of Lake Norgan, along the waterline past two beached rowboats, then up a rocky track to a group of tall standing stones on a rise over the lake. She stops at a stone chest there. Use Open, and the log changes to “Freki led you to some spoils” and then “Tell Ilsa of Freki’s discovery.”

Among the finds in this chest were Spoils: Lv 2, Long Weaponry twice, plus Abandoned Supplies (Normal) x3. You keep everything Freki discovers.
Report back and finish the quest
You can send Freki home from the chest by holding interact and choosing Send to village. A notice reads “Hound Dismissed” and “Freki returned to the Norgandian Settlement.” Walk back up to the settlement and speak to Ilsa, who stands with Freki beside a brazier.
Telling her about the discovery completes the quest. You receive 10,000 XP and Scrag of Beast x3. The Scrag of Beast is meat, so it doubles as food you can hand to Freki on a later walk.
How Freki’s treasure walks work afterward
A tutorial called “The Hound” unlocks once the quest is done. From then on Freki is yours to borrow. Find her in the Norgandian Settlement next to Ilsa, stand close, and use “Take Freki on a walk (Hold).” Hold interact while she travels with you, pick Give meat, and choose a piece from your pack. She then guides you to a treasure chest location you have yet to discover. Open it, and you can Pat her, keep walking, or send her home.
The meat you offer Freki determines the rarity of the chest loot. Initially, she will not attack enemies while accompanying you. Certain quests that strengthen your bond can make her more helpful in combat: she may attract enemy attention and pull downed pawns over to you. Freki has her own Health. When it gets too low, or if you leave her behind, she returns to the settlement without you.
Two items make traveling with Freki more convenient. The Hound’s Scent Pouch summons her wherever you are in Norgan, so you needn’t return to the village to get her; it weighs 0.10 kg, and Dwayne will trade one for 1 Norgan Ducat. With the Lupinity augment, dashing and jumping cost less Stamina while Freki is with you.
Hare meat reference values
Alpine Hare Meat changes as it ages and can also be dried, which affects how much Health it restores and what it sells for. Give Freki a piece of meat while she is traveling with you.
| Item | Health restored | Sell price | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 1,500 G | 0.2 kg | |
| 100 | 1,000 G | 0.2 kg | |
| 25 | 5 G | 0.2 kg | |
| 150 | 1,500 G | 0.1 kg |
Eating Rotten Alpine Hare Meat also causes the Blighted debilitation, so keep it separate from your healing supplies. Dried Hare Meat is made with two Aged Alpine Hare Meat.
With Freki unlocked, Ilsa’s next favor is the side quest “A Direwolf Delicacy,” which asks you to track down a treat the hounds will actually enjoy. That one has its own walkthrough.
