Tamer in Training is a main quest in SCROOMS handed out by Halden after you secure the Ocarina. Its quest card reads: “With an Ocarina secured, Halden’s told me to gain more experience through taming scrooms and helping others out! He wants to see me again once I’ve reached level 25.” The catch is that hitting level 25 does not close it on its own, so you have to go back and talk to Halden in person.
Quick answer: Reach level 25 by catching scrooms, then press E to talk to Halden at his campfire in Songkeeper’s Grove. The turn-in is instant and pays 2,025 XP and 350 Chimes.
What the quest needs before you turn it in
Open the Quest Log from hotbar slot 4. Tamer in Training sits under “Main Quests” and lists two objectives on the card, “Reach level 25.” and “Return to Halden.”
You can be level 25 or higher when you turn it in. No banner fires when you simply hit level 25, and the second objective, “Return to Halden.”, only appears under the first once you are at the required level. The quest stays filed under “Main Quests (1)” until you actually speak to him.

Levels come from catching scrooms and from quest rewards. With the 1.5x Catch EXP pass active, the stretch from level 22 to 26 ran about 21 to 28 songs per level, which works out to roughly 11 to 14 minutes each at around two songs per minute. The grind slows noticeably compared to the early teens, so expect the final push to 25 to take the longest.

In Songkeeper’s Grove, Halden is seated on a log beside a campfire. Two red tents are set up there, and a waterfall is visible behind the camp on the left. Oswald the woodcutter’s stump and log pile are just a few steps to Halden’s left.
Walk up to Halden until the prompt “E Talk / Halden” appears on screen. A white exclamation mark floats above his head when the turn-in is ready.

Turning in Tamer in Training
When the “E Talk / Halden” prompt appears, press E. The quest finishes immediately, and “Quest Completed: Tamer in Training” displays in a banner at the top of the screen.
Continue through Halden’s dialogue by confirming each reply; only one numbered option is available each time. The replies appear in this sequence:
- Halden: “Hah! Look at you now, a proper tamer!” — reply “1. What should I do next?”
- Halden: “There’s plenty more beyond this grove. The Bluestone Caverns are worth a look… if you can get in.” — reply “1. If I can get in?”
- Halden: “Aye. You’ll need some proper momentum to jump over those ledges at the entrance” — reply “1. …”
- Halden: “I wonder if that fellow Shax with the boots could help you?” — the conversation ends here.

Rewards and how to confirm it worked
At level 26, that XP payout was enough for a full level, pushing the character from level 26 to level 27 the moment the quest closed. The Chimes counter climbed from 10,835 to 11,185, a clean +350. If your level ticks up and your Chimes total rises by 350, everything went through correctly.
What unlocks next: A Leg Up
Finishing Tamer in Training starts the next main quest automatically, and it tracks itself without any extra input. The new entry is A Leg Up, tagged as a Main Quest.
Its text reads: “Halden says I’ll need proper momentum to get over the ledges at the Bluestone Caverns. He reckons Shax, the fellow with the boots, could help.” The single objective is “Find and speak to Shax.”, and the card lists a reward of 675 XP with an “Untrack” button if you want to hide it.
Once you’ve turned in the quest, the Quest Log shows A Leg Up under Main Quests (1), Beekeeper’s Request under Side Quests (1), and Completed (3). Your next lead is Shax and his boots, with the Bluestone Caverns as your destination.
