Hand Drills are a Rare Topside Material in Arc Raiders, used in crafting and required to push your Outpost to Level 3. They concentrate on one map, Pendola Pass, where the abandoned passenger trains and scattered shelters turn into a reliable supply once you know exactly where to look.

Quick answer: Drop into Pendola Pass and search the passenger train cars at Almatera Station and Railyard. Hand Drills sit loose on seats and tables, and nearby Storm Huts hold more on shelves and inside containers.

Where Hand Drills spawn in Pendola Pass

Hand Drills fall under the Industrial and Mechanical loot categories, so anything tagged with those two tends to hold them. On Pendola Pass that points you to a short list of high-value zones, with the passenger trains doing most of the heavy lifting.

Almatera Station is the most reliable place to search. The rail lines there were designed for heavy axle loads, and Hand Drills repeatedly appear in the open on seats and at table edges inside parked carriages. Railyard offers the same opportunity among its Exodus-era rolling stock. Hand Drills also sit out in the open beyond containers, so check each seat, table, shelf, and railcar interior instead of focusing only on crates.

When you do open containers, four types carry Hand Drills: Industrial Crates (which need an Industrial Breach to open), Lockers, Shipping Container Drawers, and Tool Trolleys. Each yields one per stack.

Farming route for a fast three Hand Drills

Deploy into Pendola Pass. The map unlocks after 25 rounds played, so you need some time on your account before it appears in rotation.
Head straight to Almatera Station or Railyard. These two zones hold the densest cluster of passenger train cars, which is where the loose spawns pile up.

Check all seats and table corners throughout the train carriages. Hand Drills often sit in the open; line up with one to see F PICK UP +1 Hand Drill.
Clear the nearby Storm Huts. The bunker near Railroad Junction is a good example — search the shelves under the lamps and the loot containers inside, where a second or third Drill often sits.

Drop each Hand Drill into your Safe Pocket as you pick it up. At 0.5 kg each and a max stack of three, they cost almost nothing to carry, and the Safe Pocket keeps them if you die before extraction.

Storm Huts can trigger an alarm. If one goes off, you can rush in, grab the shelf spawn, and leave rather than fighting through the whole alert.

Hand Drill stats and recycling values

Keep these numbers in mind while you farm, since they decide how many you can carry per stack and what each one is worth if you sell or break it down.

Recycling a Hand Drill returns 1 Mechanical Components. Salvaging one instead produces 2 Metal Parts. Because they are needed for crafting, holding onto them is usually worth more than breaking them down early.

What Hand Drills are needed for

Two uses make Hand Drills worth stockpiling. Upgrading your Outpost to Level 3 requires 3 Hand Drills, alongside Epoxy Buckets and Planks, and that progression chain leads toward upgrading the Gunsmith and unlocking weapon amplifications.

They are also a crafting ingredient for Anvil I, which calls for 3 Hand Drills together with Advanced Mechanical Components and Heavy Gun Parts at Gunsmith 2. Collecting a full stack of three in a single run covers either requirement outright.

Confirming you got them

You know a pickup landed when the F PICK UP +1 Hand Drill prompt fires and the item appears in your loadout. For the Outpost upgrade, open the Level 3 requirement and check that the Hand Drill count reads three of three. Once it does, the upgrade becomes available and the next tier of materials unlocks.
