Hytale has brought its first complete content chapter, Out of the Breach, to Exploration Mode. The update centers on inventive goblins, whose contraptions made from junk drive much of the experience: a fresh biome, a custom-built dungeon, a boss encounter with several phases, rune-powered abilities, and the first minigames in the game.
Quick answer: Load any Exploration Mode world and head to the Forgotten Temple to open the chapter. From there you can reach the Guttering Hollows biome, the Goblin Breach portals, five goblin gadgets, seven Runestone abilities, and the Deepworks dungeon ending in the Gobliterator.
How to start Chapter I at the Forgotten Temple
The Forgotten Temple starts to stir whether you use an established save or create a new one. Head there and investigate the Goblin Lab to begin opening up the chapter’s content. A special Chapter screen lists your goals, showing what to pursue and the rewards tied to each task.
The temple is meant to stick around. Hypixel Studios is treating it as a progression hub that will grow with every future early access chapter, so it is worth getting familiar with now. The full rundown lives on the official Out of the Breach announcement.

After the chapter becomes available, a short-lived portal forms somewhere in your world with a forceful arrival, so keep your distance. Crossing it takes you to a volatile piece of Orbis occupied by goblins, while the Void closes in from the borders. The area is rebuilt on each visit and frequently offers unfamiliar content; eventually, the Void drives you back out.
The Breach therefore gives you a limited window. Use it to explore, battle, tackle puzzles, and collect all the loot you can before you are forced to return. You can extend your stay by pushing back the Void and improving the Goblin Breach Console in the Goblin Lab.
The goblin stronghold lies in the Guttering Hollows, a newly added highland region filled with thick forests and discoveries above and below ground. There are predators to track and trap, Void assassins on your trail, loot chests that trigger enemy waves when approached, and puzzles guarding areas that cannot be reached by digging. To hunt beyond a breach, you need a Voidheart; hunt locations are also marked with a distinct icon on the world map. Developers call the region a blueprint for further content, with future additions expected to arrive there over time.
The goblin faction and its elites
The goblin faction has had a full overhaul, giving its members varied builds, sizes, and temperaments. They are generally aggressive, gather in groups, and show signs of coordination beneath the disorder. Some, however, prefer not to fight. Goblins fear the Void and escape its creatures unless enough allies are close by; certain friendly members also operate shops where you can trade.
Several goblins fill distinct combat roles you will learn to read:
- Goblin Scrapper — a quick, lightly armed close-combat foe that attacks in a swarm.
- Goblin Miner — a sturdier melee foe whose heavy leap can hit hard.
- Goblin Guardian — a plated protector who uses a shield in battle.
- Goblin Lobber — a ranged attacker throwing explosives.
- Goblin Burner — a distance attacker armed with a flamethrower.
Some goblins are classed as elites with their own mechanics, acting as mini-bosses you clear before the dungeon’s end. The Goblin Feastmaster is one such elite. It charges at you, calls in reinforcements mid-fight, and its attacks can tear up the surrounding environment. The encounters run on an Encounter Manager system that coordinates phases, enemy waves, and arena changes, and because encounters are authored as content rather than hard-coded, the team can keep building more of them.
The Deepworks dungeon and the Gobliterator
Hytale’s first dungeon crafted entirely by hand is the Deepworks, where the chapter’s progression culminates. Its twisting chambers present fresh trials as you advance, pitting you against goblin hordes while you avoid fire and collapsing debris and work through puzzles. Checkpoints along the way prevent a defeat from sending you all the way back to the entrance. The descent has the atmosphere of a damp, moss-covered cave network, with green aquifers and heaps of stolen goods tucked into corners.
The nimble Feastmaster stops you midway through the dungeon. The last encounter is against the Gobliterator, Hytale’s first major boss with multiple phases. A goblin pilots the enormous machine, which is armed with cannons and flamethrowers that inflict burn damage during several phases. It signals powerful attacks by marking a spot on the ground, so dodge before the strike lands. Go in ready for a tough battle.
You can switch the encounter to a tougher setting with the button beside the boss chamber entrance on its left. Use it only if you are prepared for a greater challenge.
The $15,000 Gobliterator challenge
Simon Collins-Laflamme, co-founder and game director, is offering $15,000 to the first streamer who beats the Gobliterator on hard mode under strict conditions. The run must be solo, in hardcore mode, and use no armor, potions, or glitches. Iron weapons available in Exploration Mode are the only weapons allowed, and you need to stream or record the attempt so its VOD can be reviewed.
Five goblin gadgets and the carry mechanic
The goblins brought their toys, and they end up in your hands as loot. Each gadget is deliberately scrappy, and each changes how you move through or build in the world.
| Gadget | What it does |
|---|---|
| Scrap Drill | Breaks blocks across a 2×2 area in a single use. |
| Scrap Glider | Lets you fly, dive, and climb while keeping momentum. Watch your stamina. |
| Rocket Boots | Grant a double jump. |
| Hookshot | Zips you across the world using Hook Anchors. |
| Spyglass | Zooms in on distant action. |
Alongside the five gadgets, you can craft the Bangstick, a stick that goes bang, and a Goblin Repair Kit that mends items without lowering their maximum durability. Basic boats have also been added, with proper movement mechanics and effects.
A new carry mechanic lets you physically pick up and haul certain blocks and objects, including chests and explosive barrels. That means you can shift a storage room in one trip, lob a barrel at enemies as a makeshift ranged attack, and move resources too big for a normal inventory.
Runestones and the new ability system
Chapter I adds Runestones, a new ability setup in which you gather stones and place them in a Runebinder’s Lattice. Equip your character with as many as two Ability Runestones, then use Modifier Runestones to alter their effects. Using abilities consumes mana, which refills automatically over time; striking an enemy with a weapon’s signature ability grants a boost.
There are seven Ability Runestones at launch, each a base power you build on:
| Ability Runestone | Effect |
|---|---|
| Fireball | Sends out a fireball that bursts when it hits something. |
| Ground Slam | Sunders the ground and raises spikes that launch enemies. |
| Wind Strike | Imbues your weapon so the next three attacks fire piercing wind arcs. |
| Enrage | Increases damage dealt and damage received. |
| Imbue Poison | Applies a stacking poison debuff on hit. |
| Chain Hook | Fires a hook that hurts a foe and pulls them in your direction. |
| Charged Shot | Fires a frost bolt, with its damage and slowing strength determined by how long you charge it. |
There are eight Modifier Runestones that augment these abilities. Their effects include splitting one projectile into several, making it ricochet among enemies, inflicting withering or bleeding, and reducing damage in return for a shorter cooldown. Developers present this update as a starting point; the more advanced Runeforging system is planned for future chapters.
Minigames: Prop Hunt and Shuffle Jam
Hytale now has a Minigames option on the main menu, its first experience outside Exploration and Creative. Queue solo or bring a party, and matchmaking handles the rest. Two games are available to start.
Prop Hunt splits players into Hunters and Props inside a crowded tavern. As a Prop you disguise yourself as beds, tankards, barrels, and other objects, taunt to charge up a smoke-bomb-and-dash escape, and survive to the end. As a Hunter you track and eliminate Props, and every one you catch switches sides to join the hunt.
Shuffle Jam cycles through a playlist of party microgames, with a random selection order each match. Players collect stars in each round, and the highest total wins. The launch lineup has 12 microgames:
- Color Party — survive by moving onto the block with the right color.
- Diving — take a frog’s leap and capture blocks in the pond.
- High Ground — stay inside the circle while knocking others out.
- Lavablocks — stay ahead of the rising lava by smashing blocks and choosing your position carefully.
- Lazers — fire lasers at enemies for the most eliminations.
- Memory Floor — learn the shapes, then occupy the matching one.
- Plot Painter — paint blocks in your color to claim the biggest share.
- Racing — fire at the correct blocks to gain speed and travel farther.
- Stash & Seek — conceal your relics, then locate the other players’ stashes.
- Tile Flip — run across tiles to take them over and collect power-ups.
- TNT Run — parkour across a map as blocks fall away.
- TNT Tag — pass the TNT to another player by tagging them before it detonates.
Minigames go live shortly after the chapter itself launches rather than at the exact same moment. A Minigames tab for the Mod Browser and a creator framework for building your own are planned further down the line.
Combat changes, transparency, and cosmetics
Combat has received broad adjustments. Sword, dagger, mace, and battleaxe swings are around 15% faster; crossbows have had their damage cut substantially, and weapons now affect movement in a more uniform way. Damage no longer stops you from eating or drinking, consuming food brings a smaller movement penalty, and several food effects have been adjusted. Non-elite Chapter I foes may now stagger when hit, halting their attacks until they gain brief resistance to further stagger effects.
The engine now supports real transparency, which makes stained glass and window blocks possible and lets entities and NPCs have transparent parts. The update layers in more than 100 new cosmetic options, from hairstyles, eyes, and earrings to goblin head ornaments with their own stinky particle effects. The Scrap Arcanist and Junk Pilot sets unlock through chapter progression. There are also new goblin-themed blocks, new weapons tied to the chapter’s encounters, throwable barrels, fresh music, and added French and Spanish language support.
Cursebreaker Edition extra copies
Cursebreaker Edition owners receive one extra Standard Edition copy to give away with every early access chapter. If six chapters ship before the 1.0 launch, that works out to six free copies in total.
All of these additions are available in current builds as Hytale continues its early access development toward the full Minecraft rival it has long been presented as. Out of the Breach opens the chapter sequence, and the Forgotten Temple is intended to support the chapters that follow.
