Miso is a companion in Fisch, added with the Nate’s Quest update on October 10, 2026. It is an orange tabby cat with black eyes, white whiskers, and a white chest and paws, and it stands in as the NPC that starts the entire Nate’s Quest line before it becomes a pet you can keep.
Quick answer: Complete all six Nate’s Quest missions and claim Nate’s Blade. Head back to Nate’s Cave, take the Cheese wedge off the shelf behind the sofa, and give it to Miso.

Where Miso is and what you need first
Miso sits inside Nate’s Cave on Sunstone Island, in front of the table beside the arcade machine, at GPS coordinates -431, -853, -1244. Talking to it opens Nate’s Quest, a six-mission line that must be completed in full before the cat can be tamed.
You also need somewhere to store the pet once you tame it. The Companion Satchel unlocks at Level 30 and opens with the C key, so reach that level before you expect Miso to appear in your roster.

The quest line runs in a fixed order, each mission unlocking the next. The final mission ends with you claiming Nate’s Blade, which is the gate that puts the Cheese wedge in the cave.
| Mission | Objectives |
|---|---|
| The Investigation | Talk to Miso. |
| Restore Nate’s Blade | Locate a Crimson Centerpiece and a Broken Blade, then head back to Nate’s Cave to put Nate’s Blade back together. |
| Relive the Trailer | At Moosewood Docks, land a Perfect Catch on every fish; in Roslit Volcano, do so for all fish rated Mythical or lower; at Snowcap Cave, use Nate’s Blade to Perfect Catch 20 Colossal Squid. |
| A Nostalgia Trip | Clear every original game milestone (fish, rods, titles, boats, lanterns, badges, enchants, weather and modifiers). |
| Find Nate | Return to Miso, find Nate’s Crown, Glasses and Lantern, then break the wall with Nate’s Blade. |
| The Final Showdown | Confront Dr. It Fish, then talk to Nate. |
A Nostalgia Trip is the longest stretch because it asks you to redo nearly all of the game’s original content. The full checklist is: catch every original fish with Nate’s Blade, catch five fish with every original Fishing Rod, obtain every free and obtainable original Title, obtain every original Boat, obtain every original Lantern, unlock every original Badge, enchant 21 times, and witness every original Weather and Modifier.

Feed the Cheese wedge to tame Miso

You can confirm it worked by opening the Companion Satchel with C and checking that Miso now sits in your list of companions, ready to equip.
Miso’s companion abilities
Once equipped, Miso contributes to fishing through its passive abilities, which scale as the companion levels from 1 to 10.
- Scratch increases progress speed by 3%, helping you reel fish in faster.
- Chomp increases progress speed by 35%.
- Luck Aura raises Luck by 20% for you and players close by, boosting the chance of landing rarer fish.
Companions earn XP from catching fish, interacting with the pet, and walking it around, with Companion Candy granting large chunks at once. Pushing Miso toward level 10 is what gets the most out of those Luck and progress-speed figures.
