Fire Transmutation is a left-hand ability for close quarters: it lights foes up, and its damage continues well after the flames die down. Burning targets lose Health over time and stagger briefly, giving a Fire build its opening. Set a group ablaze, close in with the Saber as they burn, then do it again before Ignite ends. The setup below sustains that cycle while conserving Nephtoglobin and Health.
Quick answer: Pour points into Sufferance for Transmutation damage and Nephtoglobin, support it with Health, Endurance, and Melee Damage, and take Brittleness, Back-Burner, Fireworks, and Never-Ending Inferno as you level the weapon.

What the Fire Transmutation does
This hard-hitting area spell catches enemies and world objects in its flames, inflicting Ignite. The initial strike is followed by ongoing Health loss for each affected target. Fire carries the Volatile tag and excels at wearing down a crowd with its damage over time, rather than taking on one durable foe; use it when several enemies press in together.
It tops out at level 5. Each level raises the direct damage and the Ignite tick, and demands a specific crafting material to upgrade.

| Level | Damage (base / max) | Ignite | Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 / 15 | 4 | — |
| 2 | 7 / 17 | 4.5 | Crude Transmutation Material x2 |
| 3 | 8 / 18 | 5 | Pure Transmutation Material x2 |
| 4 | 9 / 19 | 5.5 | Distilled Transmutation Material x2 |
| 5 | 10 / 20 | 6 | Quintessential Transmutation Material x1 |

Every weapon level unlocks a perk, and two of them force a choice between two options. For a melee-supported Fire build, the picks below reinforce the burn-then-swing loop rather than pure range.
- Brittleness (level 2): ignited enemies take extra damage from your Melee Attacks. This is why the build leans on the Saber at all.
- Back-Burner (level 3): sustained casting ramps up damage and status buildup, so holding the flame on a group stacks Ignite far faster.
- Fireworks (level 4, over Wildfire): extends the flame’s reach. The extra distance lets you keep burning from safety and recover Endurance between swings.
- Never-Ending Inferno (level 5, over Unstable Blaze): Melee Attacks prolong the Ignite effect, which locks the Saber and the Transmutation into one continuous combo.
Wildfire covers a broader area but doesn’t extend the spell’s reach. Unstable Blaze instead causes a shot to detonate an ignited foe. Either can work, yet both favor fighting at range, unlike Brittleness and Never-Ending Inferno, which pay off when you punish enemies up close.
Stat priorities
Casting Fire runs on Nephtoglobin, so Sufferance carries the build. The Nephtoglobin Sufferance and Transmutation Damage upgrade raises your maximum Nephtoglobin by 2 and Transmutation damage by 1% per rank across 100 ranks, giving you both the fuel and the scaling in one line. Status Buildup adds 5% status increase per rank for four ranks, which stacks Ignite quicker.
Because you fight inside melee range while enemies burn, you also want survivability and swing power. Maximum Health adds 10 per rank over eight ranks, Maximum Endurance adds 5 per rank over eight ranks, and Melee Damage adds 3% per rank over four ranks. A sensible order looks like this:

- Maximum Health and Nephtoglobin Sufferance first, so you can cast often and take a hit.
- Maximum Endurance next, to keep dodging and swinging between casts.
- Melee Damage, Status Buildup, and Transmutation Damage to sharpen the burn-and-punish loop.
- Physical Resistance and healing-focused Sufferance perks to round out defence.
Weak-point hits yield extra Nephtoglobin from Nephtoglobin Remnants, making them a good match for the explosive weak-point enemies produced when you set a crowd on fire.
Ambers to run
Ambers are the slot-in buffs you equip at a Lantern, and the right set keeps Fire online even when your Nephtoglobin dries up.

Equivalent Exchange
This Amber lets you sacrifice Health to cast once Nephtoglobin runs out, spending 1.1 Health per Nephtoglobin point. It is a single-rank Amber dropped by the Risen Sapeur in the Vale of Wrath. Since a Fire build already carries several ways to regain Health, trading some of it to keep burning is a fair deal.

Healing and sustain
To cover Equivalent Exchange’s cost, build around regeneration. Wound that Heals gradually replenishes missing Health and has a maximum rank of 3; find it in chests in The Battlefield and the Vale of Wrath, or get it as a drop from Volunteers. Butcher’s Carnage restores Health whenever you land a Melee Attack, making it a good fit for an aggressive step-in approach. However, it prevents Ferrofluid Flask from healing you while equipped, so use it only if you’re confident in your melee uptime.
Beyond those, Ambers that speed up Ignite buildup, grant a backup Fire attack on a cooldown, boost melee damage while your Health is full, or layer a shield over full Health all slot cleanly into this plan. Mix them to cover your weakest moment, usually the gap when Nephtoglobin is empty.
Pairing the Saber with Fire
The Saber is the melee half of this build, and Brittleness makes it hit ignited enemies harder. Build it for damage and Endurance recovery by taking Pursuit and Adrenaline Flourish, which refund stamina after a clean dodge or a kill, so you can keep swinging into the burning crowd.

For a more aggressive version, take Careful Preparations to lengthen Whetstone effects and apply a Flaming Whetstone, letting the blade itself add Ignite on every hit. It costs more Whetstones, but once they become easy to stock later on, it is a strong permanent setup that stacks the burn from both hands at once.
How to tell the build is working
You will see the loop land when a burst of flame catches a group, each target shows the Ignite effect ticking Health away, and your Saber hits visibly harder on anyone still on fire. With Never-Ending Inferno, those swings keep refreshing the Ignite timer, so a pack stays burning as long as you stay on them. If enemies stop burning before you finish, lean harder into Back-Burner’s sustained casting and Status Buildup to raise the Ignite rate, and keep Fireworks range in mind so you can back off and recast without losing the stack.
