Void Crystal Shards are an Uncommon crafting ingredient added in Hytale Chapter I: Out of the Breach. They stack up to 100 and feed the Goblin engineering recipes at the Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench, so you need a steady supply to build gadgets, craft decorative Void Crystals, and push Goblin Breach Console upgrades.

Reach The Guttering Hollows through a Goblin Breach
Void Crystal Shards only appear inside The Guttering Hollows, a fragment of Orbis populated by Goblins and Void creatures. You cannot walk there. Access depends on a Goblin Breach event, which can only occur once you have discovered the Goblin Lab in the main world.
Your trip is timed. The base limit starts at 10 minutes, so gear up before you jump in and plan a route rather than fighting everything you meet.
Enemy drops inside the fragment
Three enemies drop Void Crystal Shards on a guaranteed basis. Void Crystals are the richest single source, dropping as many as ten shards at once, so prioritize them whenever one appears.

Void Crystals spawn during Void Surge events. When a Surge starts, drop what you are doing and hunt the crystals, because missing one means losing up to ten shards you cannot recover later in that run.
Chests and containers
Containers across the fragment hold shards on a 100% weighted roll, so clearing them out alongside combat is the fastest way to pad a run.

One reliable spot for chests is the small houses ringed by thorny bushes. Look for ladders dropping into skeleton-filled cellars; a couple of chests usually sit below. Clear the skeletons first, then loot.
Harvest crystal formations and Void anomalies
Purple crystal formations scattered through the caverns can be mined directly. If a formation refuses to harvest, check for a Void growth or tentacle protecting it nearby, destroy the obstruction, then return and mine the crystal. Yields vary, with some formations giving around three shards.
Floating Void anomalies also release shards when destroyed, and larger targets can hand over both shards and extra time on the clock. Treat the amounts as variable rather than fixed, and collect every drop before moving on so nothing is left behind when the Void forces you out.
An Adamantite Pickaxe can mine Void crystals. If a formation still will not break after you clear its growths, your current tool tier is likely too low.
Void Crystal Shards are separate from Essence of the Void and Voidhearts. Do not confuse them, as they serve different recipes.
Extend your time in the Breach
Longer runs mean more shards per trip. You can add time during an active run and raise your base limit permanently through the Console in the Goblin Lab.
- Hourglass Relics add time when picked up, with an observed pickup granting one minute.
- Certain Void targets, especially larger anomalies, extend the timer when destroyed.
- Watch the countdown and head for a nearby target instead of starting a long fight when time is low.
Each Goblin Breach Console upgrade extends the time available on later runs. For the initial upgrade, pay 10 Scraps and 2 Void Crystal Shards to raise the limit from 10 to 12 minutes. The following upgrade listed requires 8 Void Crystal Shards and 2 Voidhearts, and grants one more minute. Check the Console’s listed requirements before you spend.
