The Shadow Veil is a Relic in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse that raises Rose’s defence by 33% while her hit points sit below 33% of her maximum. It waits inside a chest on the roof of a ruined building in the Burned District of Paris Streets, east of the climbable tower, and the path to it is sealed until Rose can break dark floating rock barriers.
Quick answer: Defeat the Warrior boss to gain the rock-shattering ability, then travel west from the Mirror of Life, break the floating rock barrier, clear two enemy waves in the arena, and open the roof chest.
Shadow Veil effect and requirements
Rose must keep the Relic in one of her three Relic slots for it to function. When her health falls below 33%, her defence immediately increases by 33%, making it useful in low-health moments rather than as a constant buff.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Relic |
| Effect | Defence +33% when HP is below 33% |
| Location | Burned District, Paris Streets |
| Prerequisite | Warrior boss ability to break floating rocks |
Before heading out, make sure you have beaten the Warrior boss. That fight grants the ability to destroy the black floating rock barriers that block the passage inside the ruined building. Without it, you cannot reach the arena or the chest beyond it.

Confirming you have the Relic
Opening the chest adds the Shadow Veil to your inventory, where its card lists the description: “Passed down through generations, this fragment of mourning cloth was never washed and emits a sharp stench.” Slot it into one of Rose’s three Relic slots and hold to equip. Once it is active, the 33% defence boost applies automatically every time her health falls below the 33% mark.
