Mine for Fish on Roblox: How Money, Fish, and Upgrades Work

A look at the iceberg mining loop, fish values, backpack limits, and the shop upgrades that let you climb for rarer catches.

A look at the iceberg mining loop, fish values, backpack limits, and the shop upgrades that let you climb for rarer catches.

Mine for Fish is a Roblox experience built around digging frozen fish out of a giant iceberg called the Iceberg Expedition. You start on the dock at Glacier Harbor with a basic pickaxe and an empty backpack, head into the ice, chip fish free, and carry them back to sell. The cash you earn then funds better gear so you can climb higher and reach rarer fish.

Quick answer: Mine frozen fish from the iceberg, sell them at the Fish Market in Glacier Harbor for Expedition Funds, and spend that money on pickaxe, backpack, and warmth upgrades so you can climb higher for more valuable catches.

The core loop: mine, carry, sell

The iceberg is split into zones, with the Common Zone sitting near the bottom. You reach it by crossing the bridge from Glacier Harbor, past information signs and shop stalls, then descending into an ice crevice. Fish appear as silhouettes or frozen bodies trapped inside the ice.

Freeing a fish means mining away the surrounding ice, then striking its block until the durability meter runs out. When the casing gives way, hold E to interact on PC and add the fish to your backpack. The ice signs make the rule clear: fish found deep down are no better than Rare, so head upward for higher-rarity catches.

How you earn money (Expedition Funds)

Money in Mine for Fish is tracked as Expedition Funds. There are two ways it grows. Every hit on a normal ice block pays out +$1 directly, so breaking ice earns a steady trickle even before you cash in a single fish. The larger payouts come from selling the fish themselves at the Fish Market stall back at Glacier Harbor.

You do not have to walk back. The HUD has a “SELL FISH” button in the bottom right that fast-travels you straight to the dock, with a cooldown timer attached. At the market you can sell fish one at a time or dump everything at once with the Sell Backpack option, which in the footage cleared a full catch for $109.

Fish rarity, weight, and value

Each fish has a rarity tier and a weight in kilograms. Rarity drives value, and value climbs fast. A Common Cowfish sells for $73 and a Common Frog for $36, while an Uncommon Tuna is worth $4.3K. That gap is the whole reason the game pushes you to climb higher in the iceberg, where better fish spawn.

FishRarityWeightValue
FrogCommon1.7 kg$36
CowfishCommon3.1 kg$73
TunaUncommon2.6 kg$4.3K

Weight matters for a second reason. Your backpack has a carry limit, and some high-value fish demand far more space than their listed weight suggests. When you try to take a fish your bag can’t hold, a “BACKPACK TOO SMALL” prompt appears. In the footage, the Uncommon Tuna needed 214 kg of bag space despite weighing 2.6 kg. You can either leave it, upgrade your backpack, or pay 49 Robux to take it anyway.

Rare Trench fish only spawn in the deep ice, so there is a reason to mine low as well as high. The deep zone simply caps rarity at Rare for everything else.

Shop upgrades at Glacier Harbor

The Fish Market menu holds separate tabs for Pickaxes, Backpack, and Warmth, alongside the Sell and Robux tabs. These three upgrade paths cover how fast you mine, how much you can carry, and how high you can safely climb.

Pickaxes

Pickaxes carry three stats: Mining Power, Mining Speed, and Mining Luck. The starting Bronze Ridge Pick comes equipped, and each paid tier mainly bumps Mining Luck, with Power creeping up at the higher ranks. Luck raises your odds of better finds, shown on the HUD as a Mining Luck multiplier.

Coalfield Breaker1.1 / +1.0+0.8%$115
Coppervein Prospector1.1 / +1.0+1.0%$175

More picks sit further down the list, including the Deepmine Crosspick, Flint-Tooth Pick, Frontier Hookpick, and Iron Truss Pick.

Backpack and warmth

The backpack upgrade raises carry capacity, with the first tier taking you from 22 kg to 32 kg for $75. Warmth works on altitude. Climbing higher gets you better fish, but there is a safe-altitude limit, and falling hurts. The first warmth upgrade pushes your base altitude from 52 m to 88 m for $100, letting you reach higher ground before the cold becomes a problem.

Aquarium, Radar Shop, and the Fish Index

Beyond mining and selling, each player owns a personal aquarium on the dock. It holds fish and grants a luck bonus, starting at 12 fish slots and a +0.0% luck figure that grows as you stock and upgrade it. Adding four more slots costs $1.0K.

The Radar Shop sells limited-stock gadgets that point you toward fish, with stock refreshing on a timer. Prices range from cheap single-area scanners to five-figure tools that sweep the whole iceberg.

The Fish Index also measures your progress toward collecting 388 total species. For every fish found, it records a number and rarity, setting a lasting objective beyond the Common and Uncommon fish you catch early on. On a new save, the tally can begin at just 2 of 388, showing how much of the iceberg remains unexplored.
