The Takeover 2 is a side-scrolling beat ’em up from Pelikan13, the studio behind the retro-inspired original The Takeover. Its reveal trailer debuted during The MIX Fall Game Showcase 2026. In about 80 seconds it sets out what the sequel is: four fighters, two-player co-op, almost anything as a weapon, and arcade bonus stages that swap fists for fighter jets and sports cars.
Quick answer: The Takeover 2 is coming to PC through Steam with four playable fighters and two-player co-op. It has no confirmed release date yet.
The Takeover 2 release date and platform
The trailer closes on key art of Connor Grayson, Ethan Rivers, and Megan Brooks standing in front of a burning city, with the Pelikan13 logo in one corner and the Steam logo in the other. The game is listed as coming soon to PC (Steam). No other platforms appear, and no official release date or launch window is confirmed.
The Takeover 2 roster: four playable fighters
You pick from a preset cast rather than building your own brawler. Each fighter gets a name card and a short burst of gameplay, and the four styles are easy to tell apart.
| Fighter | Look | Moves shown |
|---|---|---|
| Ethan Rivers | Blue sleeveless vest, red headband, jeans | Martial arts kicks, flaming specials |
| Megan Brooks | Red jacket, yellow and black pants, boots | High kicks, gunshots |
| Connor Grayson | Green tactical vest, goggles, ammo belt | Firearms, heavy strikes, pipe |
| Amy McKenna | Headphones, pink and yellow skirt outfit, roller skates | Skating combos, fiery aerial kicks |
Ethan Rivers covers the classic martial artist role, with spinning roundhouse kicks and fire-trailed strikes. Megan Brooks mixes acrobatic kicks with gunplay, and part of her footage takes place on a sunny beach stage. Connor Grayson is the heavy hitter. He shoots, throws big punches, and swings a pipe inside a train car. Amy McKenna fights on roller skates, chaining rhythmic combos into flaming kicks in the air.
Amy is missing from the closing key art, which shows only the other three. The trailer doesn’t explain why.
How combat works in The Takeover 2
The core loop is familiar beat ’em up territory. You walk right, clear out waves of thugs, and the screen tracks your health, a super meter, and weapon ammo. Stages in the opening montage include high-tech rooftops, a subway car, back alleys, a greenhouse balcony, and a street basketball court.

Two-player co-op
The trailer labels its co-op as “Wild Co-op Action.” The footage shows two players working together on a city bridge, inside an industrial factory, along a storefront street, and in an underground cage match ring. In that ring, the pair juggle enemies against a fighter whose HUD name reads SCULLCRUSHER.
Everything is a weapon
The levels are full of things you can pick up and swing. Fighters grab traffic cones, basketballs, trash cans, fire axes, megaphones, a snapped-off parking meter, and pieces of arcade cabinets. Some pickups have their own score bonuses, like “GAME BALL! +25” and “TV DINNER! +25.”

Brutal finishing moves
Finishers are their own system. The trailer shows head smashes, ground slams, bone-crunching throws, and point-blank firearm executions, including shotgun kills at close range. The highest bonus on screen, “DEADSHOT! +100,” appears alongside these moves.

Combo and score labels
Scoring rewards specific actions, not just damage. These are the labels the HUD shows during fights:
- “HITS!” — running combo counter
- “PARRY! +10” — a parry system exists
- “FACEPLANT! +15” and “BREAK!” — takedown and guard-break bonuses
- “GAME BALL! +25” and “TV DINNER! +25” — object-based bonuses
- “DEADSHOT! +100” — firearm finisher bonus
Controller prompts such as “Y” and “RB” also appear on screen, so gamepad support is clearly part of the plan on PC.
Bonus games, dinosaurs, and other detours
The bonus stages are the biggest break from standard beat ’em up structure. Under the caption “Intense Bonus Games,” the camera switches to 3D arcade minigames. One is a behind-the-jet dogfight in the style of old afterburner-type shooters, with “ALTITUDE,” “TIME,” and “SCORE” readouts. The other is a high-speed sports car race on a track. A “TOTAL” tally hints at a results screen after each one.
The sequel also leaves the city. One short sequence puts a fighter in a thick prehistoric jungle, kicking and shooting green velociraptors while the hit counter rises. The final montage moves through a speeding subway, a burning jail and factory area, an incinerator room, and a neon dance club.
Enemies and bosses named in The Takeover 2
The trailer ends with a boss fight on a rooftop helipad. The opponent’s HUD name reads RHEUS, but it flashes by fast enough that the name is easy to misread, so treat it as provisional until Pelikan13 says more. Boss health bars sit along the bottom of the screen, apart from regular enemies.
Many other names show up in enemy health bars during the footage, which gives a rough idea of how varied the gangs are:
| Names on screen | ||
|---|---|---|
| BUTCH | CHOW | RHINO |
| BRUTE | STEALTH | ILEX |
| PHLEGM | IRIS | COOT |
| SNAKE | FURY | SCULLCRUSHER |
| GUNNER | BRICK | SPARTA |
| TYRANT | JAX | JABBER |
| CAILLER | TANK | RHEUS |
There are two lines of in-game dialogue: “Eat dirt, pig!” and “I’ll buy you!” That’s about all the story the trailer gives. It’s a mechanics showcase, not a plot setup. Pelikan13 has shown the roster, the systems, and the platform, and the release date is still unannounced.
