Honkai Star Rail 4.3 Apocalyptic Shadow: Team builds for Cocolia and Judge of Oblivion

Counter both bosses, pick the right node buffs, and clear the new Starward Mode stage for its extra rewards.

Counter both bosses, pick the right node buffs, and clear the new Starward Mode stage for its extra rewards.

The 4.3 rotation of Apocalyptic Shadow in Honkai Star Rail throws two bosses at you, Cocolia and the Ichor Memosprite: Judge of Oblivion, and then tacks on a third encounter through the new Starward Mode. That last stage is the hard part, but it also carries the biggest payout. The trick is matching each node to the right elemental weaknesses and the right node buff.

Quick answer: Use an Elation hypercarry (Evanescia or Sparxie) with Comic Relief in Node 1, a follow-up or Phainon hypercarry in Node 2, and a premium Castorice or Kafka DoT team with Brand of Anamnesis or Tarsus Infection for the Starward Mode Node 3 against Flame Reaver.

Node buffs for every stage

Each node lets you pick one buff before the fight. Choose the one that lines up with your team’s damage type, not just the one that sounds strongest. Here is the full set across all three nodes.

NodeBuffEffect
1Comic ReliefTargets of an ally’s Elation damage become Vulnerable for two turns.
1Exploit OpeningInflicting a debuff on an enemy raises that ally’s CRIT DMG by 75% for two turns.
1Collapse of SightEnemies take 10% extra Break DMG; breaking a weakness grants all allies +15% SPD for two turns.
2Armed UpAll allies deal 200% extra Physical damage and enemies lose 20% Physical RES.
2Beaming BlissEnemies take 30% extra Elation damage; an Elation unit grants +50% Weakness Break Efficiency.
2Moment of Opportunity+50% Ultimate and Follow-Up ATK damage, plus 50% more from those abilities against weakness-broken foes.
3 (Starward)Knowledge and DecorumAn Erudition ally grants all allies +25% All-Type RES PEN.
3 (Starward)Tarsus InfectionDoT damage regenerates 1 Energy and ignores 40% of the enemy’s All-Type RES.
3 (Starward)Brand of AnamnesisWith 2/3/4 Remembrance characters, all allies deal 5% / 10% / 20% extra damage.

Node 1 teams: Judge of Oblivion (Physical, Fire, Imaginary)

No matter which stage you enter, Node 1 always pits you against the Ichor Memosprite: Judge of Oblivion. The boss and its supporting enemies are weak to Physical, Fire, and Imaginary, which makes Elation hypercarries the natural fit here.

  • Evanescia, Yao Guang, Elation Trailblazer, Huohuo
  • Sparxie, Silver Wolf LV999, Yao Guang, Huohuo

Run Comic Relief with both of these teams. Evanescia stacks Certified Bangers faster than most Elation units, so her damage ramps quickly, and Huohuo keeps her Ultimate cycling through Energy regeneration. If you don’t own Evanescia, the Silver Wolf LV999 dual-DPS team built around Sparxie is the strongest alternative, since both DPS characters pump out heavy damage at once.

Node 2 teams: Cocolia

Every stage’s Node 2 is a Cocolia fight. Two approaches work well here, depending on whether you lean on follow-up attacks or a pure hypercarry without a healer.

  • Ashveil, Mortenax Blade, Feixiao, Hyacine
  • Phainon, Sunday, Cerydra, Bronya/Dan Heng Permansor Terrae

For the follow-up team anchored by Ashveil, pick Moment of Opportunity. It scales up both the FUA characters and Mortenax Blade’s output by a meaningful margin. For Phainon’s hypercarry, take Armed Up instead. That team can run without a sustainer, but if you want a safety net, Dan Heng Permansor Terrae is the best slot-in.

Node 3 teams: Flame Reaver (Starward Mode)

Starward Mode adds a third stage against Flame Reaver. You can switch the mode off and clear the standard version, but doing so forfeits the bonus rewards, which are 100x Stellar Jade, 100x Jade Feather, and 20,000x Credit. Flame Reaver is weak to Ice, so build around that.

  • Castorice, Cyrene, Evernight, Hyacine
  • Kafka, Hyacine, Black Swan, Huohuo

The premium Castorice team is the cleanest pick because its members carry the Ice element Flame Reaver is weak to, and because you can squeeze full value from Brand of Anamnesis with the Remembrance characters in the lineup. If you’d rather lean on damage-over-time, the Kafka DoT team is the best option, and it pairs with Tarsus Infection for extra Energy and RES penetration on every tick.

How to confirm a clear

Your score in each node depends on how quickly you defeat the bosses and how much of the Action Value timer is left when they fall. Three stars on a stage marks it as fully cleared in the mode’s progress screen. With Starward Mode enabled, finishing Node 3 is what releases the extra Stellar Jade, Jade Feather, and Credit payout, so leave the mode on if you want the full reward total.

If a run stalls, it’s almost always an element mismatch. Bringing a DPS that the boss resists, or skipping the buff that matches your damage type, is the most common reason a team that looks strong on paper fails to break the timer. Lock in the weakness-aligned team and the matching node buff first, then worry about fine-tuning relics.
