Stealing is built into the core loop of Grow a Garden 2. Once night falls, any crops left in an unlocked garden can be lifted by other players, which is a major change from the original game where theft cost Robux or required a rare pet. There are a handful of reliable ways to lock down your plot, fight off raiders, and recover anything that gets taken.
Quick answer: Stay inside your own garden at night and it stays locked, so nothing can be stolen. To remove the risk entirely, play in a private server instead of the public game.

How stealing works at night
Theft only happens during the night cycle. While you remain standing inside your own garden, the plot is locked and other players cannot take anything from it. The moment you step out to raid someone else or visit a market stall, your crops become vulnerable.
You can enter an unlocked player’s garden and grab their crops, but a steal only counts once you carry the loot back to your own garden. The same applies in reverse. If a thief makes off with your fruit, you can chase them down and attack them with a Gear or Shovel to knock the stolen crop loose and take it back.
Tip: A safe routine is to sell all your plants during the day and stay inside your garden border at night. If you never leave, there is nothing to steal.

Add to Google Preferences →Defensive pets that guard your plot
Several pets actively attack intruders who enter your garden, which makes raiding your plot costly for anyone who tries. These are bought from the lobby.
| Pet | Defensive effect |
|---|---|
| Bee | Swarms and stings players who try to steal from your garden. |
| Black Dragon | Sets intruders on fire. |
| Ice Serpent | Freezes intruders and turns them to ice. |
| Raccoon | Steals from other players at night and adds +25 to your steal stash. |
Defensive crops: Venus Fly Trap and Dragon’s Breath
Two crops double as garden defenses, though both are rare and expensive to acquire.
- Venus Fly Trap attacks any player who steps into your garden and strips 75 percent of their health. Stand too close and it may snap at you by accident.
- Dragon’s Breath fires lasers at intruders. Each hit does small damage, but it strikes very frequently.

Gear for defense and counterattacks
Gear items either protect your plot directly or give you tools to fight back against raiders. Some are sold for Robux, others for in-game Sheckles at the Gears Shop.
| Gear (Rarity) | Effect | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Vine Wrapper (Uncommon) | Grabs other players with a vine briefly. | 499 Robux |
| Power House (Rare) | Hoses other players away for a short time. | 299 Robux |
| Freeze Ray (Rare) | Freezes other players briefly. | 749 Robux |
| Gnome (Epic) | Placed in your garden to guard crops at night. Lasts a short time with a timer above its head. One-time use. | 50,000 Sheckles |
| Flashbang (Epic) | Stuns another player for a short time. One-time use. | 8,000 Sheckles |
Props and garden layout
Props add physical barriers. Fences and Owner Doors block players from walking in, while Bear Traps catch intruders who manage to get inside. Combine enough of these and a simple plot starts to feel like a fortress.
Layout matters as much as the items themselves. Place your highest-value crops in the center of the garden and ring them with defensive plants, props, and gear. That forces any thief to pass through your defenses before reaching the crops worth taking.

Avoid theft completely with a private server
If you would rather skip the nightly risk altogether, the most reliable option is to play in your own private server. You can create one for free.
You can also join other people’s private servers, and many players run no-steal lobbies. The trade-off is that you are relying on others to follow the rules, and someone may still break them.
For most players, the safest balance is to stack a defensive pet and crop, keep high-value plants in the middle behind props, and never wander off at night with a full garden behind you. When you want zero risk, a private server removes thieves from the equation entirely.
