Demon Bow location in Gothic 1 Remake (85-damage short bow)

Where to find the Demon Bow in the Sleeper's Temple, the Dexterity you need, and how to buy it instead.

Where to find the Demon Bow in the Sleeper’s Temple, the Dexterity you need, and how to buy it instead.

The Demon Bow is one of the strongest ranged weapons in Gothic 1 Remake, dealing 85 damage per shot while only taking up a short bow slot. It sits second on the bow damage chart, just behind the Bow of Death, and outguns nearly every longbow you can find. The catch is a steep 70 Dexterity requirement, so it only becomes usable once a ranged build is well into the back half of the game.

Quick answer: Pick up the Demon Bow for free inside the Sleeper’s Temple, below the platform that holds the Uriziel sword, by dropping down to the lava flow and looting it from a petrified human statue. You need 70 Dexterity to equip it.

Demon Bow stats and requirements

Before chasing the bow down, make sure your character can actually wield it. The Demon Bow demands 70 Dexterity, which is a high investment that suits a dedicated ranged playstyle. If you are running a strength or magic build, the bow will still go into your inventory, but you will not be able to draw it until your Dexterity reaches the requirement.

Demon Bow location in the Sleeper’s Temple

The free copy of the Demon Bow waits deep inside the Sleeper’s Temple, in the same chamber that houses Uriziel. You only reach this area later in the campaign, so the bow is effectively a Chapter 4 reward tied to story progress rather than an early find.

Complete the quests tied to Xardas in Chapter 4 to gain access to the Sleeper’s Temple inside the Orc Enclave. The bow is not reachable until this part of the temple opens up.
Solve the blood puzzle in the central section of the temple. Finishing it triggers a fight against the Demon Lord, and defeating that boss clears the path further inside.

Pass through the bloodied gate and look to the right side of the room for the blue door flanked by two demon statues. Go through it to reach the tower that holds the Uriziel sword.

Inside the large cavern, do not climb to Uriziel. Instead, follow the path down the right side toward the lava flow. Expect a few Undead Orcs on the way, so clear them before moving on.

When you reach the lava, hop across the rocks to land on the larger platform. The Demon Bow is held by a petrified human statue near the edge, standing beside some skeletons. Loot it to add the bow to your inventory.

Buy the Demon Bow from Wolf instead

If you would rather not run the temple route, the bow can be purchased outright. Wolf in the New Camp sells the Demon Bow starting in Chapter 6 for 688 Nuggets. That makes the temple version the cheaper option, since it costs nothing but the time to reach it, while the merchant copy is useful for players who skipped or sold the original.

How the Demon Bow compares to other top bows

Only the Bow of Death beats the Demon Bow on raw damage, and it asks for even more Dexterity. The table below lists the strongest bows so you can decide whether the Demon Bow is your final pick or a stepping stone.

BowDamageRequired Dexterity
Bow of Death8873
Demon Bow8570
Storm Bow8267
Orcchaser7964
War Bow7661

The Storm Bow is also worth noting as a fallback. Cavalorn sells it in Chapter 5 for players who hit 67 Dexterity, so it can bridge the gap until your stats reach the Demon Bow’s threshold.

Confirm the Demon Bow is equipped

You will know the pickup worked once the Demon Bow appears in your inventory and you can draw it without a Dexterity warning. If the bow stays greyed out or refuses to draw, your Dexterity is below 70. Keep investing in Dexterity through training until the requirement clears, then equip the bow to start using its 85 damage per shot.
