Road to Empress 2 hangs every outcome on a single decision tree. From the moment Wu Yuanzhao leaves Ganye Temple, more than a hundred endings branch off small choices, failed quick-time prompts, and timing slip-ups. Most of those are bad endings that cut your climb short, but a handful let you escape the palace, follow a different life, or take the throne outright. Reaching all of them is a matter of working the map node by node rather than replaying the whole game.
Quick answer: Open the Storyline (story map), jump to any unlocked decision node, change your choice, and watch the branch play out. Each ending shows a number, flavor text, and a character voice note that points to the exact decision you need to flip, so you can backtrack and clear the next branch without restarting.

How endings work in Road to Empress 2
The game is a live-action interactive palace drama, so every “ending” is a video branch rather than a separate save file. Instead of save-scumming, you use a sprawling story tree that you can click through at any time. The Story Map lets you return to any node you have already unlocked and pick a different option from there.
Content splits into two tracks. The main story follows the return to the palace with Empress Wang. The side story begins if you leave Ganye Temple for a new life during the prologue, sending you after the Prince of Wei across the countryside on a mission from the Mirage Pavilion. Some ending numbers repeat across both tracks, but the scenes behind them are completely different, so a main-story ending and a side-story ending with the same number are not the same outcome.
When you hit any ending, the game reports how long it took to reach the rank of Empress, how many endings you saw on that run, and other run details. Reaching a true ending also unlocks bonus content, including Court mode, which lets you preside over the court without diving back into the branches, plus currency rewards.

Note: Some endings trigger if you let a timer run out on a decision rather than picking anything. The “Watch the Show, or Flip the Table?” and “Beat Youzi to Death?” nodes both count a timeout as a valid path to an ending.

Hints that point to each ending
Every ending screen carries a name, a number, and a line of flavor text that hints at which decision changed your fate. On top of that, you receive voice notes from the characters in the previous scene. The character who caused your downfall often spells out exactly what you did wrong, which makes the voice notes a direct guide back to the correct choice.
If you want clearer signposting, turn on Hint Mode with the slider at the bottom of the Storyline. When you land on a bad ending, the Tips button lets you spend coins to rewind and try a different choice, which is the quickest fix when you are stuck on a single node.
Every main story ending and its trigger
The prologue sets the split: choosing to leave for another life sends you to Liu Xi’s Terms and the side story, while choosing to return to the palace opens the Chance to Meet Li Zhi path and the main campaign. Side story endings and the Prince of Wei route
To reach the side story endings, take the “leave this place for another life” choice at the prologue’s Make-or-Break point instead of returning to the palace. That sends you down the Liu Xi’s Terms path and, eventually, onto the Prince of Wei’s journey through the countryside for the Mirage Pavilion. Because the side story runs on its own branch, it has its own set of numbered endings that you clear the same way: jump to each node, flip the choice, and read the flavor text and voice notes for the next hint.

How to confirm you’ve unlocked all endings
Progress is tracked through Feats and Steam achievements, so you can verify your count without manual bookkeeping. Several milestones fire automatically as you collect endings and finish both stories.
| Milestone | Requirement |
|---|---|
| A Long Road Ahead | Reach 50 endings |
| Hard-won Fight | Reach 100 endings |
| Tranquil Soul | Reach 25 non-bad endings |
| Seen It All | Get all ending types |
| Flow of the Past | Reach a Chapter Summary at any true ending |
| Master of All | Complete 100% of both the main and side story |
You know a run is finished when the Chapter Summary appears at a true ending of either story, listing your time to Empress and the endings you saw. Court mode unlocking on the main menu confirms the main story is complete. If an ending refuses to trigger, the cause is almost always a missed earlier choice that gates it, a passed or failed QTE that sent you down the wrong path, or a decision you let time out when the ending needed a specific pick. Backtrack to the named node, set the listed choice, and watch the scene through to register it.
