Read the mouth, roll past every bite, and stay behind the fish to clear this Saltpeter Desert fight.

The Treasure Anglerfish guards the Saltpeter Desert in Lost Castle 2, and it punishes players who try to outrun it instead of timing their dodges. It has a surprisingly small set of moves, but its large body covers ground fast and its huge mouth closes the gap before you can react. The fight comes down to one habit: watch the jaws, dodge as they snap, and keep yourself behind the boss.

Quick answer: Stay behind the Anglerfish, dodge-roll above or below it the instant its mouth begins to close, and expect a second bite right after the first. When it burrows and the ground shakes, sprint away to dodge the emergence, then punish it during the short rest after its third dive.

Treasure Anglerfish attack patterns

For most of the fight, the Anglerfish only wants to bite you. There are no waves of projectiles to track like the Behemoth fight, but the boss’s speed and reach make its simple moves dangerous. You cannot walk out of range, so the dodge roll and jump are your main tools for survival.

AttackHow to dodge it
Standard biteWatch for the brief delay between the lurch and the snap. Roll above or below the fish as the mouth starts closing, and brace for a second bite about a second later.
Dash biteThe fish swims rapidly across the sand to reach you. Dodge as the jaws begin to shut, then slip behind it since it cannot turn quickly.
Underground suction emergeIt dives, shrinks to just its fin, and chases you. When the ground shakes and it stops moving, put as much distance between you as possible before it bursts out.
Underground leapOn the second dive it jumps out instead. Stay clear of the large red circle before it lands.
Double bite finishAfter the third dive it surfaces with two quick bite snaps in a row. Roll through both, then attack during the rest that follows.

How to beat the Treasure Anglerfish

Keep your eyes locked on the mouth, not the body. Every bite has a short wind-up where the fish lurches forward before the jaws actually close. Dodge-roll on that closing motion, aiming to pass above or below the fish rather than backing straight away.
Every bite has a short wind-up where the fish lurches forward
Do not relax after a clean dodge. The Anglerfish frequently follows up with a second bite almost immediately, so hold your position and be ready to roll again before you commit to an attack.
Get behind the fish whenever you can. It cannot turn on a dime, so its rear is the safest spot to deal steady damage while it keeps trying to bite. Melee builds should whack away from behind during and right after each attack.
If you are running a ranged weapon such as a musket, fire your volleys between bites while the boss is stationary. Move out as soon as it starts chasing, then resume firing during the next opening.
Handle the burrow sequence carefully. When the fish dives and shrinks to its fin, it will hunt your position relentlessly. The moment the ground shakes and it stops moving, sprint as far away as you can, because the emergence is too fast to react to up close.
Survive the follow-up dives. The second emergence is a leap into the air, telegraphed by a big red landing circle, so simply step out of that circle before it lands. The third dive ends with a double bite, after which the boss rests briefly without moving or attacking.
Use that recovery window. The pause after the third dive is your best damage opportunity, so unload everything you have before the Anglerfish returns to its normal chase-and-bite loop. From there the fight has no new gimmicks, so keep dodging the bites and repeating the cycle.

Rewards for defeating the Treasure Anglerfish

Clearing the fight pays off with crafting materials and unlocks for later runs. You will know the boss is down when the arena clears and the drops appear.

  • A chunk of Black Iron Ore
  • General loot for your current run
  • The Anglerfish Liver
  • The boss’s unique armor and weapons, unlocked for future attempts

Defeating it also clears the hidden “Diet Control” achievement for taking down the Treasure Anglerfish in the Saltpeter Desert. If a run keeps ending here, the cause is almost always getting clipped by the second bite or being caught too close during an emergence, so widen the gap before the fish surfaces and you will close the encounter cleanly.
