Who Ralsei is, his role as the party healer, his stats and spells, and how his character changes across chapters.

Who Ralsei is, his role as the party healer, his stats and spells, and how his character changes across chapters.

Ralsei is the third hero of the Prophecy in Deltarune and one of the game’s two deuteragonists alongside Susie. He is a Darkner and the self-described “Prince from the Dark,” ruling over Castle Town, where he first meets Kris and Susie and explains their destiny. In combat, he serves as the party’s healer, trading raw damage for magic and support.

Quick answer: Ralsei is the gentle Darkner prince who joins Kris’s party as its dedicated healer. He has the highest Magic stat of the three heroes but the lowest Attack and max HP, and he fights using his scarf.

Ralsei’s role in the party

Ralsei is the first member to join Kris after the pair arrive in the Dark World. He introduces the trio as the heroes of the Prophecy, whose task is to seal the Dark Fountains and keep the world in balance. He leans on pacifism, encouraging Kris and Susie to SPARE enemies rather than FIGHT them, though he leaves the final call to Kris and makes an exception when an enemy is hostile and cannot be spared.

His combat identity is support. With weaker attacks and a smaller health pool, he keeps the team alive through healing spells while Susie and Kris handle damage. His scarf doubles as a weapon and, in battle, can even lift his hat to use an item.

Ralsei’s spells

Ralsei’s spell list centers on keeping the party healthy and ending fights peacefully. He also has situational spells tied to specific boss and team encounters.

His affection shows even in his mechanics. Ralsei can perform Heal Prayer with a hug, and when ACTing, he bows to everyone, a gesture that famously matters during the King Round fight, where bowing eventually causes the boss to lose the crown that powers it.

How Ralsei’s appearance changes by chapter

Ralsei’s look evolves as the story moves forward. In Chapter 1, a pointed green hat covers his horns and throws his face into shadow, making his fur look black. Under the hat, he wears round green glasses, a pink scarf, and a long green robe with a black heart on the chest and a tattered lower edge.

Once the hat comes off at the end of Chapter 1, he is revealed to closely resemble the Dreemurr family, similar to a young Asriel or Toriel, with white fur, floppy ears, pink horns, and pink eyes with detailed lashes. From Chapter 2 onward, his robe gains long black sleeves, the hem becomes uniform rather than ragged, and the chest emblem sometimes appears as an inverted spade instead of a heart.

ChapterNotable outfit detail
Chapter 1Pointed green hat, hidden arms, tattered robe with heart emblem
Chapter 2No hat, black sleeves, spade/heart emblem; becomes a butler in a black tuxedo and pink bowtie at one point
Chapter 3Chef outfit with white apron and chef’s hat; later a black vest, slacks, and silver chain for the rhythm segment

Ralsei’s personality and character arc

Ralsei is humble, considerate, and quick to apologize. He cares about his friends to the point of selflessness, is willing to take pain on their behalf, and is easily flustered by compliments or affection. He is reluctant to get angry, instead looking disappointed when Kris or Susie act cruelly, and he is trusting to a fault. His naivety nearly gets him killed when he heals King during a fake surrender, and from that betrayal, he learns not to trust so freely.

Later chapters deepen him considerably. He initially believes his only purpose is to make Kris and Susie happy, which is why he leaves his castle room bare and treats his own wishes as “selfish.” In Chapter 3, he admits he fears he does not truly exist, and in Chapter 4 he grows visibly anxious because his knowledge of the full Prophecy includes a tragedy meant to strike the heroes. He confides to Kris that he is starting to develop his own likes, dislikes, desires, and fears.

This world is full of all kinds of people, Kris. In the end, how we treat them makes all the difference. So let’s try our best to get by without fighting.

Ralsei also shows awareness beyond his own world. He acknowledges the Player and the SAVE mechanic, sometimes addresses the Player directly, and steers them away from the Weird Route, calling its options “bad choices” and warning that it leads to a worse fate for everyone.

Ralsei’s relationships

Ralsei lived alone in Castle Town before Kris and Susie arrived, holding the title of prince without any subjects. He waited for the two of them specifically, already knowing the full Prophecy and its forbidden path. His Lightner counterpart in the real world is unknown.

  • Kris: Good friend and teammate; Ralsei trusts Kris’s leadership and confides his deepest fears in them.
  • Susie: Good friend and teammate, though they clash early because Ralsei’s pacifism conflicts with Susie’s combative streak. Susie later reassures him that he deserves his own room.
  • Lancer: Friend and former enemy; Ralsei goes out of his way to help Lancer despite being the target of his pranks.

Over the course of the story, he reconciles with a long list of former enemies, including King, Jevil, Queen, Spamton, and Tenna, reflecting his belief that almost anyone can be reached without violence.

Ralsei’s nicknames and aliases

Characters across the world rarely call Ralsei by his actual name. The Prophecy refers to him simply as “THE PRINCE,” while friends and enemies stack on their own labels.

For most of the game, Ralsei uses he/him pronouns, with they/them also applying from late Chapter 5 onward. Taken together, he is the soft-spoken anchor of the party, a healer whose real arc is learning that a Darkner can want things for himself.
