The merchants, prices, world spots, and forge recipes for this 14-ore smithing material.

Leather strips are a smithing material in Gothic 1 Remake, valued at 14 ore each. You use them at the forge to bind and finish a long list of weapon blanks, so keeping a small stock on hand saves trips later. There are three reliable ways to stock up.

Quick answer: Buy Leather strips for 14 ore from any of eight traders in the Colony, loot them from chests, or pick up the 24 stacks lying openly in the world.

Buy Leather strips from merchants (14 ore each)

Eight traders across the Valley sell Leather strips, all at the same price of 14 ore per unit. The difference is stock size. Skip and Darrion carry the largest supply at sixteen each, which makes them the fastest single source if you need a batch for forging.

Find Leather strips in the world and in chests

Leather strips lie openly at 24 spots across the map, so you can grab them for free while exploring. On top of that, they wait inside 43 chests and one body spread across 13 regions, which is the better option once you have lockpicking or chest access.

The Old Camp is the densest area for chest pickups, with stacks tied to the Armory, several Digger and Shadow containers, and named holds like Graham, Grim, and Sly. The Swamp Camp is the next richest region, including the Blacksmith, the Novices, and the body labeled Body 01 B.

What Leather strips are used for at the forge

Leather strips are consumed by 12 forge recipes, mostly for the early, unpolished or dull versions of melee weapons. Before you sell any spare strips, check whether you plan to craft any of these, since each one needs the material as an input.

  • Dull Axe
  • Dull Skullcleaver
  • Dull Crude Sword
  • Dull Judgment Sword
  • Unpolished Morningstar
  • Unpolished Sting Mace
  • Unpolished Bloodfly Sting
  • Unpolished Steel Tongue
  • Unpolished Mace
  • Unpolished Steel Mace
  • Unpolished Stonecrusher
  • Unpolished Warhammer

Note: At 14 ore apiece, Leather strips are cheap enough to buy in bulk before a forging session. If you are short on ore, prioritize the free world pickups and the chest hauls in the Old and Swamp camps, then top up from Skip or Darrion for anything you still need.
