The Black Door sits deep inside the Dreadnaught, a shipwreck point of interest that only appears during Storm Dive matches as the final extraction area. Behind it is some of the strongest loot in SAND: Raiders of Sophie, but the lock will not budge without a Black Key, and that key is the end of a long upgrade chain that starts with a single Green Key.
Quick answer: Get a Green Key, then upgrade it through four POIs in order (Kaiserplatz → Meersauge → Segen → Fort Istria) until it becomes a Black Key. Carry that key into a Storm Dive match, survive until the Dreadnaught spawns, blow open the red door, and use the Black Key on the only dark-colored locked door inside.
What you need before starting
The whole chain is gated behind one item and one mode. You need a Green Key to begin the upgrade path, and you need a Black Key in hand before the Dreadnaught is worth visiting. The Dreadnaught itself is a Storm Dive exclusive that spawns late in a match, so the final step cannot be done in Voyage mode.
Pack an explosive too. Two doors in this chain are sealed shut and must be destroyed rather than unlocked, so a grenade or time bomb is part of the kit, not an optional extra.
| Key | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Green Key | Inside Rare and Very Rare Valuable Safes across the map |
| Blue Key | Kaiserplatz mansion, behind the first door on the left |
| Red Key | Meersauge, on a sand-buried chair in the locked room |
| White Key | Segen bank, upstairs behind the red door |
| Black Key | Fort Istria basement, on the desk to your left |

Each colored key opens the door that holds the next key up the chain. The order is fixed, so you cannot skip a location.

Note: The Black Key can also drop directly from elite military commanders or sector bosses, so if one falls into your hands during a fight, you can skip the chain entirely and head straight for the Dreadnaught.
Open the Black Door inside the Dreadnaught
With the Black Key secured, the rest happens inside a single match. The Dreadnaught only appears in Storm Dive, and it shows up late as the final extraction point, so timing and survival matter as much as the key.

You know it worked when the dark door swings open and reveals the main loot room. The Dreadnaught holds some of the best rewards in the game, which makes the full key chain worth the time even though it eats most of a match to set up.
Common reasons the door won’t open
- You are in Voyage mode. The Dreadnaught is Storm Dive exclusive and will not appear anywhere else.
- You only have a lower-tier key. Green, Blue, Red, and White keys cannot open the Black Door; you need the Black Key specifically.
- You skipped the explosive. Both the Fort Istria red door and the Dreadnaught’s outer red door must be destroyed, not unlocked.
- You died carrying the key. Lose the Black Key in a fight and you will have to rebuild the chain or hunt a boss drop again.
The chain is long, but it is also linear and repeatable. Once you know the route from Kaiserplatz to Fort Istria, the only real obstacle left is surviving long enough in Storm Dive to walk the Black Key through that final dark door.
