Marvel Rivals Season 9: Every Buff, Nerf, and Regenerative Shield Change

The July 10 patch strips out Team-Up Anchor bonuses, adds Regenerative Shields, and slows ultimate energy across the roster.

The July 10 patch strips out Team-Up Anchor bonuses, adds Regenerative Shields, and slows ultimate energy across the roster.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 rewrites how team compositions are built. The old Team-Up Anchor bonuses that handed heroes flat health or damage just for standing next to a partner are gone, and NetEase is replacing that free stat padding with specific character synergies, a slower ultimate economy, and a new health type called Regenerative Shields. Roughly 80% of the roster is affected, so most heroes have adjusted numbers to compensate for what they lost.

Quick answer: The balance patch goes live on July 10, 2026, at 9:00 AM UTC. Every hero keeps or loses value based on two systemwide changes first — reduced ultimate energy generation and Regenerative Shields — then a long list of individual buffs and nerfs on top.

Two systemwide changes that affect every hero

Before any individual hero tuning, two global rules change the pace of every fight. The first cuts how quickly ultimates charge, so match-winning abilities come out less often. The full breakdown lives in the official Season 9 balance post.

The second change introduces Regenerative Shields. These points behave exactly like base health for any mechanic tied to health, including percentage-based damage and healing. The difference is recovery. If a hero avoids all incoming damage for 5 seconds, the shield refills fully over the following 5 seconds. A 300-point shield restores at 60 per second, and a 150-point shield restores at 30 per second. Heroes who use cover between engagements gain the most from this, while anyone caught in the open never triggers the recharge.

Vanguard buffs and nerfs

Tanks are the most reshaped role. Several receive large base health increases to replace lost anchor padding, while others trade raw health for Regenerative Shields that reward disengaging. Deadpool now works as a Vanguard with better guns and a stronger team aura, and Devil Dinosaur, Doctor Strange, and Groot become far harder to kill.

Duelist buffs and nerfs

Damage dealers lose their generic 5% damage anchor bonuses and gain value only when they aim well or run the right partner. Hela becomes a serious long-range threat, Hawkeye’s arrows travel faster, and Elsa Bloodstone loads more shells. On the other side, Cyclops takes the heaviest cut with lower damage and slower cooldowns, while several flankers swap base health for Regenerative Shields.

Strategist buffs and nerfs

Supports can no longer sit back as passive healing fonts. NetEase pushes active decisions by strengthening direct healing while limiting the safest ultimates. Cloak & Dagger get healing increases across their whole kit, Luna Snow doubles her healing boost, and Mantis scales hard with the right partner. Rocket Raccoon’s C.Y.A. is the standout nerf with a higher cost and damage that decays over distance.

Black Widow rework and the end of Team-Up Anchors

Black Widow shifts from a sniper-class hero into a more flexible DPS Duelist. Her primary fire now shoots faster without a default scope, and her charged Electro-Plasma blast fires outside her ultimate while applying a slow. Her ultimate becomes an aim-down-sights sniper mode that lasts for a set duration or bullet count. Those sniper shots pierce enemies and carry a wider hitbox, though critical hits still cannot one-shot. She keeps her spinning kick, super jump, and stamina-free sprint, and can launch at enemies mid-air with Widow’s Bite.

The wider structural change is the removal of Team-Up Anchors entirely. In their place, each hero gets Team-Up loadouts with two layers. A Base Effect works whether or not the partner hero is on your team, while an Enhanced effect activates only when the specified partner is present. Older Team-Up abilities are returning alongside new ones, and NetEase says it will stop rotating these abilities in and out as aggressively each season. That means the flat health and damage bonuses that anchors used to provide now have to come from base stats, Regenerative Shields, or specific partner synergies instead.

How to confirm the changes are live

Season 8.5 ends at the same moment Season 9 begins, and the game enters maintenance before you can log back in. Expect servers to reopen roughly two to three hours after the 9:00 AM UTC start, so the balance patch will be active once maintenance finishes and you can queue again. You will know the update applied when Team-Up Anchor bonuses no longer appear on hero stat cards, affected heroes show their new base health and Regenerative Shield pools, and ultimates charge noticeably slower than before.

With anchors removed and shields rewarding cover, the fastest way to adapt is to rebuild your comps around the partners that trigger Enhanced effects — pairings like Doctor Strange with Invisible Woman, Elsa Bloodstone with Devil Dinosaur, or The Punisher with Daredevil now carry the value that used to come free.
