Marvel Rivals: The Timestream Entanglement Explained

What the Timestream Entanglement is, how it fuses the game's maps, and the Chronovium that powers it.

What the Timestream Entanglement is, how it fuses the game’s maps, and the Chronovium that powers it.

The Timestream Entanglement is the multiverse-wide collapse of time that ties together the story and the map roster in Marvel Rivals. It is the reason ancient cities, gothic nightscapes, and far-future skylines all sit inside the same 6v6 shooter, and it drives most of the villain plots you fight through.

Quick answer: The Timestream Entanglement fuses different eras and realities of the Marvel Multiverse into shared battlegrounds, which is why maps like K’un-Lun, Klyntar, and Tokyo 2099 exist side by side. It is powered by a crystalline chronal energy called Chronovium.

What the Timestream Entanglement is in Marvel Rivals

As time falls apart across the Marvel Multiverse, separate dimensions bleed into one another. Whole worlds surface out of the Entanglement, and heroes and villains from different timelines are pulled into direct conflict. The event is not tied to a single location. It spreads outward, dragging in mystical cities, alien planets, and 2099 futures alike.

Because the Entanglement mixes eras, it also gives villains a rare opening. Several major threats exploit the instability to seize power they could not otherwise reach, which is what most maps put you in the middle of.

How the Timestream Entanglement reshapes Marvel Rivals maps

The clearest place to see the Entanglement at work is the map lineup. Each battleground carries its own timeline twist tied back to the same collapse.

Chronovium and the current Time Plague storyline

Chronovium is the energy at the center of the Entanglement. It appears as a crimson crystal fueled by a dimension of pure, kinetic force, and villains across the multiverse fight to control it. Dracula uses it to freeze the moon, and Knull draws on it to spread across the gods, which shows how much raw power a single deposit can hold.

The ongoing thread follows the Time Plague. The Gilded Saint purged that plague from Lower Manhattan, but the root of the rot remains. Alchemax Headquarters still stands, shielded by crimson Chronovium, keeping the conflict alive rather than resolving it.

Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure tabletop crossover

The Timestream story also extends off the screen. Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure is a one-shot for the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, released in March 2026. It was written by Paul Allor and Marty Forbeck and serves as a prologue to the video game.

In the adventure, players take on Psylocke, Emma Frost, Mantis, Jeff the Land Shark, and other characters as they try to escape the Collector’s Museum, the same location that appears in the game. The book includes a new 10-page comic drawn by Ig Guara.

You can play it as a standalone experience using the included downloadable Quick Start resources, or alongside the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: Core Rulebook for a deeper session. It carries a $14.99 list price and can be found through book and game retailers, with more details on the official Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game page.

Taken together, the Timestream Entanglement is the connective tissue of Marvel Rivals. It explains why the maps clash across eras, why so many villains are making a play at once, and why the crossover tabletop story slots neatly in front of the game’s events.
