Kaizen Ten Shadows: How to Unlock the Cursed Technique and Tame Mahoraga

Ten Shadows is one of the strongest permanent cursed techniques in Kaizen, built around summoning shikigami such as Great Serpent, Divine Dogs, Max Elephant, Nue, and the divine general Mahoraga. Getting the full kit takes two separate efforts. You craft the technique itself in a shop, and you unlock and tame Mahoraga through a ritual tied to Megumi.

Quick answer: Craft Ten Shadows from Dr. Shiro Kato in the Permanent Cursed Technique Shop for 3,500,000 Yen, 50 Grade 2 Cores, 35 Grade 1 Cores, 25 Mahoraga Drop 1, and 10 Mahoraga Drop 2. Then find Megumi at the Zenin Estate, hand over five Chant Fragments to learn the Mahoraga ritual, and consume more Chaos Fragments until Mahoraga reaches Tame Tier 10.

Craft Ten Shadows at the Permanent Cursed Technique Shop

Ten Shadows is obtained the same way as the game’s other permanent techniques. You buy it through crafting rather than a lucky roll, so once you have the materials the unlock is guaranteed.

Head to the school courtyard and find Dr. Shiro Kato, the Permanent Cursed Technique Shop NPC. He stands near the principal inside the courtyard.

Open his shop menu and move to the Permanent Cursed Techniques tab. Ten Shadows sits among the high-tier options.

Select Ten Shadows and craft it once you have every required material. When it is done, the technique appears as Permanently Owned and can be equipped from the Curse Shop menu.

These are the crafting costs you need to gather before Kato will let you complete the recipe.

Both Mahoraga drops come from the Mahoraga Raid Boss. Because the drop rates are low and the fight is demanding, expect to run the raid several times before you have all 25 of the first drop and 10 of the second.

Ten Shadows skills and unlock levels

The technique fills out one summon at a time as your mastery level climbs. Great Serpent is available immediately, while Mahoraga only opens at mastery level 125 and behaves differently depending on how well it is tamed.

Unlock the Mahoraga ritual from Megumi

Mahoraga is not handed to you with the base technique. You have to learn a forbidden summoning ritual from Megumi, who is found at the Zenin Estate.

Open the map and teleport to Shibuya Outskirts for 1,500 Yen. From there, travel through the Cursed Forest and across the wooden bridge to reach the Zenin Estate.

Speak to the Megumi NPC near the wooden barrels. He explains that Mahoraga is no ordinary shikigami and asks for five Chant Fragments in exchange for the ritual.

Choose Unlock Mahoraga in the dialogue. The Chant Fragment requirement is satisfied by Chaos Fragments in your inventory. Once you pay, Megumi confirms the ritual is learned and Mahoraga becomes yours to summon.

Note: The Chaos Fragment is a Misc inventory item described as a torn piece of the exorcism chant tied to Mahoraga. You offer five to Megumi to unlock the summon, then keep the rest for taming.

Tame Mahoraga to Tame Tier 10

When you first summon Mahoraga with the R key, its Tame Tier is 0 and it is Aggressive. A cutscene plays as it rises from a dark void with the golden wheel spinning behind its head, and then it attacks you directly. You need to survive that first encounter, then raise its tame level so it fights on your side instead.

Survive the aggressive summon. Switching to a strong fighting style, such as Heavenly, and using moves like Boulder Throw, Quick Step Barrage, Heavenly Clap, and Heavenly Punishment gives you the tools to hold out.

Open your inventory and select the Chaos Fragment item. Click Consume repeatedly to raise the tame level, with each fragment pushing Mahoraga’s Tame Level up one step.

Keep consuming until the level reaches 10. At that point the move list shows Mahoraga as Tame Tier 10, Ally, and re-summoning it makes the shikigami attack hostile NPCs alongside your other summons instead of turning on you.

How Mahoraga behaves is decided entirely by its tier, so the taming grind directly changes whether it helps or hurts you in a fight.

You will know the taming worked when the on-screen prompts count up from Tame Level 1 to 10, the Wheel in Balance and Divine General’s Ally titles unlock, and the R slot in your move list reads Tame Tier 10, Ally. If Mahoraga still turns on you after a summon, its tier is below 10 and you need more Chaos Fragments to finish the process.
