The Caribbean in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been rebuilt, and the treasure hunts came along for the ride. Islands sit in new spots, the map clues read differently, and several of the old chest chains have been swapped out. There are 30 treasure maps to track down, and each one points to a buried chest holding Reales, ship plans, outfits, art, or a legendary weapon.
Quick answer: You cannot dig up a chest until you have found its map first. The coordinates written on a map are a rough guide to where the map itself sits; once the map is in your codex, the buried chest’s exact coordinates lock in and you can fast travel close to them.
How treasure maps work
Most maps are looted from skeletons scattered across beaches, caves, shipwrecks, and ruins. A handful come from finishing local events or story missions, and five are earned by trading map fragments with the Treasure Dealer once he sets up at your Great Inagua hideout.
How you know it worked: After you loot a map, the buried chest appears on your map at fixed coordinates and the dig prompt becomes available when you stand on the spot. Without the map in hand, no dig prompt shows up no matter how precisely you stand on the coordinates.
Two chests are gated behind story progress. Isla Providencia stays locked until you finish the Marooned mission in Sequence 8, and the Long Bay chest needs The Observatory mission completed first.

The Anotto Bay map sits in a Havana warehouse. To reach the chest, swim out to a broken diving bell, dive down, and follow a wooden tunnel past sharks into a hidden pirate hideout. The chest sits near the exit.

For Cape Bonavista, the map is inside a cave reached by climbing wooden ladders. The chest sits in a shallow pool of water in a nearby cavern, just past an entrance swarming with bats.

The Havana map is on a skeleton under a bridge. Dig at a fallen palm tree near the water. You can fight through the guards or simply swim around them.

The underwater Shipwreck chest unlocks after the “Smelly Sailors” event in Havana. Sail northeast to the island it points to, dive at the broken ship in the middle, and you will find two chests below the surface.

| Salt Lagoon | 580, 803 | 719, 607 | Serpent Figurehead plan, 3,000 Reales |
The Abaco Island map is on a skeleton on the shore of Andreas Island. Head to the shipwreck at the dig site and search near the bushes with a single rock beside them.

The Isla Providencia map is found in a Nassau warehouse. At the coordinates, walk south along the shore to a beach with ship debris, then dig between two palm trees where coconuts litter the sand. Remember this island stays locked until the Marooned mission in Sequence 8.

Grab the Salt Lagoon map off a skeleton near a palm tree. The chest is buried at the base of a large rock formation near crates and dried, fallen palms.

| New Bone | 723, 608 | 407, 95 | Maize Deity art, 3,000 Reales |
The Andreas Island map is on a skeleton in a cave next to a chest. Head to the small island fragment nearby, past a wrecked hull and canoe, and dig under the two palm trees.
Great Inagua is a grind rather than a skeleton pickup. Hang all 11 character portraits in your manor, then finish “The Memory of My Enemy” quest. The chest is tucked near a toppled palm and some wreckage on the beach, and it pays out The Fortune legendary cutlass.
The Nassau map is on a skeleton in a cave you enter by climbing trees with flowered branches. The dig site runs along Nassau’s western edge, in the bushes close to the water.
The New Bone map is on the Salt Lagoon skeleton. Head to the small island north of New Bone, where a canoe and a wandering NPC sit, then dig between that NPC and a pile of bones.

| Long Bay (Serranilla) | 483, 19 | 503, 230 | Scottish Broadswords cutlass |
Several of these maps sit far from the chests they point to, so plan for some sailing. The Matanzas map is on a skeleton on Tortuga, and its dig site sits just behind a waterfall, to the left of the Mayan Stelae.
The Pinos Isle map is on a skeleton at Cumberland Bay, on a crab-covered beach. Head to the big Mayan temple, pass the ladder on the northwest side, and dig in the grass by a side entrance.
Tulum’s map is on a skeleton in Petite Caverne across the waterfall. Watch for hostile boats near the dig coordinates, then look for a two-pronged palm tree beside barrels and boxes.
The Cayman Sound map is on a skeleton slumped against a wall in the Pinos Isle temple ruins. Its chest is on the northeast shore, between the palm trees and a large rock.
Petite Caverne’s map is on a beach skeleton near wooden crates. The chest takes some effort. Swim past a waterfall pier, climb into a cave full of stalagmites, then dig near the white flowers behind the waterfall and campsite.
The Ambergris Key map sits on a tiny island with a campfire in Corozal. Dive and follow the red jellyfish until you surface at an underwater cave. The chest waits in a dark corner, its entrance marked by a skull on a rock.
The Misteriosa map is on a skeleton inside the temple’s aisle. Dig to the left of a fountain near the Mayan temple, in the grass with white flowers.
The San Juan map is on a skeleton on a cliff edge reached by walking along a tree branch, near a lamp. Then dive into the shipwreck, follow the red jellyfish through a tunnel into a cave, and dig beside a fallen cart after clearing the guard.
The Kingston map is on a skeleton in an alcove in Misteriosa’s ruins, reached by parkour across gaps. The chest is on a beach southeast of Kingston, between two broken boat pieces.
The Long Bay map is on a skeleton in a cave on Isla Providencia. Head to three raised huts on the beach and dig in the sand just south of them. You must finish “The Observatory” mission first.

| Cumberland Bay | 605, 156 | 645, 355 | 4,000 Reales |
| Jiguey | 812, 115 | 534, 510 | Baroque Guitar art, 2,500 Reales |
| Princípe | 604, 132 | 113, 12 | Standard Bearer art, 1,000 Reales |
The Cumberland Bay map is in a Kingston warehouse. Dig near the canoe, in the shadow of a palm tree.
The Jiguey map is on a skeleton on the Île-à-Vache beach. Enter a torch-lit cave passage in Jiguey, swim through to a lagoon, and dig near the shack by the palm tree. Expect enemy pirates.
The Princípe map is on a skeleton by a grave in Port Royal. Follow the coast until you spot a fallen palm tree and rock, and the chest is right under the tree.
Treasure Dealer fragment maps
These five never appear on a skeleton. You restore each one by collecting map pieces through repeated tasks after the Treasure Dealer opens shop at your Great Inagua hideout.
| Treasure | What you need | Chest coords | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Island | 10 Yellowed Map pieces from Trade Missions | 915, 617 | Obsidian Sails, The Wellerman shanty, Helm of the Night Owl |
| Florida | 3 Tattered Map pieces from Hunter ship lockboxes | 381, 803 | Elite Wheel, Gilt Lined Sails, Sleek Crew Attire |
| Mystery Island | 6 Weathered Map pieces (5 Smuggler’s Dens + 1 bought) | 914, 124 | Persian Scimitars, Gargoyle’s Breath pistol |
| Sacrifice Island | 4 Preserved Map pieces from Warehouses | 14, 554 | Shade and Shadow Robes, Wooden Eyeball trinket |
| Santanillas | 2 Digested Map pieces from skinning rare animals | 188, 215 | Hunter Outfit, Hunter’s Amulet |
Black Island is the toughest of the set, since it demands 10 Yellowed Map pieces that drop from Trade Missions. Its dig site sits near a shipwreck on the northeast coast. For Santanillas, the Digested Map pieces come from skinning rare animals such as the White Jaguar, and the chest hides in a cave beneath a temple in the south of the island.
Blackbeard’s Treasure
Blackbeard’s chest comes automatically from the “Do Not Go Gently” mission. Head to Anotto Bay, dive to the diving bell, and fight through the cave. Along the way you blow up two destructible walls with barrels before reaching the final chest, which sits near coordinates 591, 2348 and awards Blackbeard’s portrait.
If you are pushing for 100 percent completion, you need all 30. If you are not, prioritize the maps with legendary gear and ship plans attached, since those upgrades make sailing and combat smoother for the rest of the run. The pure Reales chests are handy but easy to skip if you are short on time.
