Tomb Raider: Catalyst is no longer arriving in 2027. Amazon’s gaming chief, Jeffrey Gattis, placed the all-new Lara Croft adventure in 2028 during an interview with The Game Business, a full year later than the window shown at its reveal. The comment came almost in passing, but it is the clearest signal yet on where the project stands.
Quick answer: Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now targeting a 2028 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis lands first, on February 12, 2027.

What Jeffrey Gattis said about the 2028 date
Gattis, who leads Amazon’s video game business, was discussing how the company splits investment between smaller titles and big-budget releases. Both Tomb Raider projects came up, and that is when he spelled out the new order.
We have obviously announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis comes 12 February, next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one. We’re excited about those.
He did not label it a delay outright or explain the reasons behind it. Even so, naming 2028 for the “next one” moves Catalyst off its original 2027 target and confirms the two games will no longer share a calendar year.

The two titles were revealed together at The Game Awards in December 2025. Legacy of Atlantis is a full remake of the original 1996 game, while Catalyst is a brand-new entry. Here is where each one stands after Gattis’s comments.
| Game | Type | Release window |
|---|---|---|
| Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis | Remake of the first game | February 12, 2027 |
| Tomb Raider: Catalyst | New mainline entry | 2028 (was 2027) |
Legacy of Atlantis has already shifted once, moving out of 2026 and into early 2027. With that game holding an early-2027 slot, pushing Catalyst into 2028 keeps the two releases apart rather than stacking them within months of each other.
What Tomb Raider: Catalyst is
Catalyst is Crystal Dynamics’ next-generation Tomb Raider, built in Unreal Engine 5 and positioned as the largest game in the series to date. It takes Lara Croft to Northern India, set in the aftermath of a mythical cataclysm that unearths ancient secrets and the forces guarding them.
The setup pits Lara against rival treasure hunters descending on the region as she works to uncover what lies beneath the fractured landscape. The story is framed around trust and betrayal, forcing her to decide who among allies and rivals she can rely on. It arrives after Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the last mainline entry, meaning a gap of roughly a decade between new original games.
Confirmed platforms include PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Amazon Game Studios is publishing.
Official status and what to expect next
There has been no formal press release or trailer announcing the 2028 window. Crystal Dynamics has not addressed the change, and the franchise’s website still lists Catalyst for 2027 at the time of writing. When the head of Amazon’s gaming division states the date on the record, though, it is about as firm as the information gets ahead of a proper announcement.
For now, treat 2028 as the working target for Catalyst and February 12, 2027 as the fixed date for Legacy of Atlantis. Expect a more detailed release window, and possibly a fresh trailer, once Amazon and Crystal Dynamics decide to make the delay official.
