Path to High Honors is an Encounter quest in Where Winds Meet that plays out inside Kaifeng, centered on a young scholar named Su Wangting who is desperate to get his essay in front of the Bureau Chief. Finishing it means talking him down from a confrontation, sneaking his memorial into a guarded study, and paying respects at the Hanlin Academy.
Quick answer: Teleport to Prosperity Haven in Kaifeng City, walk toward the Privy Council gates to trigger the encounter, help Su Wangting, sneak his essay onto the study desk inside the Privy Council compound, then go to the Hanlin Academy together and offer prayers to complete it.

Where to trigger Path to High Honors
The encounter sits in the Kaifeng City map, inside the Prosperity Haven district that houses the manors of Kaifeng’s elite. Open your map, select the Prosperity Haven landmark, and teleport in. The quest marker appears near the Furnace Area and Kaifeng Prefecture, close to the main gates of the Privy Council.
After teleporting, turn around and run down the street toward the Privy Council gates. A prompt reading “New Encounter – Path to High Honors” pops up as you close in. Two NPCs, Wang Meng and Su Wangting, are arguing on the steps.
Approach the group on the steps. Wang Meng is accusing Su Wangting of breaking into the Bureau, while Su Wangting insists his conscience is clear. Interact with Su Wangting and pick the “What happened to you?” dialogue option, then offer to help.
Follow Su Wangting to a quieter spot and speak with him again. He explains that he visited the Hanlin Academy to pay respects to the Star of Literature, where a gentleman handed him a folding fan. This is Master Pu’s Fan, inscribed with “Sincerity moves even metal and stone” and signed “Pu” in the lower left.
Listen as he ties the fan’s message to his own goal of getting the Memorial on Land Reclamation and Husbandry to the Bureau Chief. Work through the three discussion points about the essay when prompted. Each option lets you talk over a part of his argument with him.

Essay discussion options

Climb the wall of the Privy Council compound to slip inside. You need traversal skills for this part; the game flags the use of Lightness Skill, climbing, Wallstride, and Suspended Cable to reach the study.
From a rooftop, eavesdrop on the servants Wang Meng and Liu Jie discussing the Bureau Chief’s worries. Move across the rooftops deeper into the compound and drop down near two officials, Li Mingke and Fu Xingye, to overhear their talk about the examinations and the essays.
Enter the study building and go to the desk. Select the “Leave Essay” prompt to plant Su Wangting’s memorial. The objective then updates to “Report to Su Wangting.”
Leave the study and cross back over the wall using the rooftops and trees to return to the street. Speak with Su Wangting and pick “It’s done, Su! Your essay will reach the Bureau Chief!” When he suggests thanking the Star of Literature, choose “Great, let’s go together!”
Head to the Hanlin Academy with Su Wangting. Outside the Kaifeng Prefecture he gives you the Blessing Bell Cord, a crimson cord with golden bells inscribed “Success in the Imperial Exams.”
Enter the academy and follow Su Wangting through the courtyard to the statue of the Deity of Literature. Along the way you can eavesdrop on the scholars Dong Yan and Zhao You praying for scholarly fortune.
At the statue, select the “Offer Prayers” prompt and bow with Su Wangting. He thanks you in a final dialogue, and the encounter closes out.

How to confirm it is complete
Once you finish bowing at the statue, an “Obtained” screen shows the reward payout, and the tracker marks “Encounter – Path to High Honors” as completed. If the reward screen and completion tag both appear, the quest is finished and nothing else is required.
Note: if the encounter prompt does not appear when you reach the Privy Council gates, walk away from the area and return, or teleport out and back to Prosperity Haven to reset the trigger before trying again.
